Fuel Smell

Smell is coming from the drivers side rear tire well. I know the fuel filter is right back there and I just replaced it about 2 months ago. I spot NO leaks of any kind. Why am I getting this smell???

could be your gas tank too, if there is only a small leak, you'll see no spot on the ground, overpressure in your tank ??

Our tanks like to crack right at the base of the filler neck. It will leak fumes only...unless the tank is overfilled.

There is a recall for it...but only for 91-92 cars. It sucks because I have a '90 and mine is cracked.

Hmmm, cracked filler neck? Is this hard to get to? Maybe I could put some sealer on there or something.

How does, and how would you eliminate overpressure in your gas tank?

Thanks!

Hard to get to the filler neck, yeah I would say so. I replaced my tank, its absolutely no fun at all. If you smell it from the rear drivers side its probably the tank or lines up on top of the tank.
If so your looking at money and some time. I changed mine in my parents driveway at home. So it can be done, but its very tedious.

maybe it's only the lid that is not tightly. But if you don't see any gas droping or leaking and you gas/milage is like before, and you don't smell it all the time,I suggest don't worry (pierda usted cuidado)

Check your charcoal/air canister, located under the hood, passengerside, in front of fender liner (thats where mine is, not sure about V6). Filter on bottom of canister will plug and cause fumes to back up from the fuel tank. Auto Zone sells the filter for around a buck. Had it happen to mine, GM manual said to check it and that was it.....
