help w/ exhaust/intake/everything

ohh yes.....i love how my 2.8 just decides to stall and leave me with no power steering heading into a corner with a telefone pole straight ahead....gotta love 3rd gens.......anywho....the car is staying off the road until its fixed next week......so i'm doing the whole car over this winter......i trying to install dual exhaust, k&n intake/filter, new fuel injectors, and any other thing to help performance/ sound........ive been looking at jc whitney, flowmaster and dynomax but only found stuff for v8s or 6's w/ headers and i obviously dont have headers.........so just suggestions on how to improve performance/sound in my beast of a 6.......definately getting new exhaust so ur input would be appreciated.......especially those of fellow 2.8ers......

Duals on this V-6 ride are not worth it.
WHY
Ya loose all the torque ya have already.
MEANING, retain factory style exhaust improve upon it.
NOW
Who's money ya playin with?
Your Budget
What does your car need?
Ya wanna go faster, pay the prices...
Wh will do the work?
Shops?
Try atleast $40 an hour. You have to be project specific.
"Fuel Injectors" won't just improve power.
YET, a set of equal flow matched & cleaned injectors, replacing your current set that is older & dirty sure will improve your power, YET will take awhile to install yourself.
IT'S A PACKAGE DEAL TO MAKE THE RIDE BETTER!
Want more HP?
Look at exhaust on passenger side of motor, Look at exhaust straight down
See that "T" juction?
Improve on that junction piping & gain about 5+ HP easy! cost could be about $100+
Add free flowing exhaust system & that could set ya back about $300 total... gain is about 7+ to 10 HP.
Great tune up could gain ya back about 5+ HP.
Add a new timing chain and that could gain ya about 1 - 3 HP back.
Rebuild your distributor yet?
That gains ya more HP & cost is next to all your own labor...
Get the idea.
Help us..
Have you done ignition coil & plug wires yet?
SO MANY IDEAS TO TRY ADD TO YOUR LIST, it's almost endless.
PS You will STILL NOT WIN MANY RACES. So don't bet the bank on the race outcome!

Doesn't quite sound like the fault of a 3rd gen, as more the fault of the previous owner's lack of maintenance, or simple component failure over the years... knew a kid once with a newer Firebird than mine, always having problems with it, but there I was, with an older Firebird and higher mileage, and didn't have anywhere near the # of problems he did.

Your #1 important tool: Click on the button, choose the V6 Forum from the forum listing, and search for anything you have a question on.

As to a quick answer to dual exhausts: Even third gen guys with V8's that are twice as fast and as powerful as our motors don't have true dual exhausts. They use the single pipe into a dual muffler. If they don't need that much extra flow, why should we?

Cat-back exhaust system, Dynomax super turbo catback. Dynomax #17493, if you go to http://www.summitracing.com , put in part #WLK-17493 into their search.

But are you bringing the car to a garage to fix? Why not try it yourself? You might have an error code stored in the computer that will tell you what component failed. (My guess is the MAF sensor.)

try a honda short ram intake
plug into the rubber thingy that connects the intake system to the throttle body, and tie in both ends
and there ya go, a few more horses, plus it looks nicer than most most home depot set ups
you could find these intake just about any auto part store
and they come in colors too!
the colors duke the colors!!!

dude i have the dual exhaust
one thing i can say i don't like about it, is that it sounds crappier.
but w/e my dad supprised me with it. and obviously he dosen't listen to what i say, but i can't complain
none the less it works better with my plan to turbo
the dual exhaust would have less problem spinning the turbo, than the normal stock exhaust.

sigh....
i can't wait.

pulleys are cheap, alternator and crank
most people would say the alternator is not worth it, because the car dies all the time, besides the fact that some also buy a bigger alternator to balance the loss of charge
let me tell you one thing
i only had a problem at the begining. I had to make sure the car was charged by accelerating at the on and off
but then i replaced my battery, and i have never had that problem again. my battery looked like it had heart disease and i guess when i tossed in the pulley, i gave it a heart attack.

so far thats all cheap mods, i don't think anyone has mentioned those
i already read the ignition stuff so i figured not repeating it.

Make sure you Tune up your car, cuz the sound of it, the previous owner didn't take care of it

yah im guessing the same thing about the previous owner......first owner was and older lady who i guess got it out of a mid life crisis......lol.......and the guy i bought it from had a son that occasionally took it out when his FOUR CYLANDER MUSTANG didn't run......hahahah.......but how would i go about splitting the single exhaust into two pipes.....that sounds better cuz i dont want to reduce back pressure but i want the look and sound...so i'll probably just buy either dynomax or flowmaster mufflers and split my stock single through a y-pipe.......please explain how to do this........i'm sending my car to the shop to see whats wrong.......he's telling me whats wrong w/ it before he does any work so if it sounds like something i can do then i will....ive done most of the work to it so far and getting tune-up after winter cuz i most likely wont drive it except an occasional dry day.......

what do u other 2.8ers suggest for an intake?....im drifting towards k&n cold air w/ K&n filters......any other suggestions would be great........pictures too......i like to see how my beast stands up to other 6's

p.s.......i will never race this thing......i just want a car that looks good (only need gfx after winter and that part is complete) and sounds good (where the exhaust comes into play/cold air) and a little performance wouldn't hurt......not crazy about having something that is high performance in any way.......friend of mine just died in car accident so im not in any mood to race or test my limits if u catch my drift (accident had nothing to do w/ racing....she only had her permit and was driving w/ her aunt)
