Best I got with the ol 2.8 was just under 600km on a trip from Alberta to BC.
If I did the math correctly I was pushing 375mi on a tank (give or take a few mi)
1mi = 1.6km then
600/1.6= 375

Yup, sticking out of the Y pipe. Warm the car up JUST A LITTLE...not so much that the pipe is hot..shut it off, disconnect the sensor, and wrench it out. Be careful putting the new one in..they're extremely delicate.

did another mileage test last week over the weekend, would've made it to probably 250 or so but refilled at the 1/4 mark. Was also doing 90-110mph for atleast 200 of the miles, so i wasn't expecting anything great.

I've managed 520 km (320+ miles) on a tank before refueling...dunno how much more I could have gone.
That is combined highway/back road driving, mostly to and from work over far from level roads.

ok now somthing serious must be wrong with my car i get 11 miles to the gallon its horrible i go throught 60 bucks a week in gas if im lucky ive changed everything i can thinkg of and the only thing i have left is a small exuast leak but i can imagine that could be why but it is before the o2 sensor so i guess it could be throwing it off.

Yeah that's probably throwing your sensor all outta whack.. But still...11 mpg is pretty damn bad from just an O2 sensor. I can't imagine it'd be that bad with that sensor alone...car might be out of tune too...

A little over a year ago when I had just gotten the car, I was getting 15.9mpg. Since then I've replaced a few little things (thermostat, coolant temp. sensor, crappy radiator cap that didn't seal worth a darn, o2 sensor) and added a couple (cai (
), a new flexplate (because the previous owner put a counterweighted one on an internally balanced engine...
)). On my last tank I got 360 miles on just a hair under 15gallons... somewhere in the 24mpg range!
Edit: That last tank was about 2/3 freeway and 1/3 ridiculous city stop-and-go crap...

Dev..how much did that MSD help out? I'm picking up an MSD 6AL in the next few days for $100 off a friend in a local car club..it's in CHERRY condition basically. I'm getting it at less than half price! Can't wait!! Now, to buy a two-step controller module and a second launch rev limiter module thing...and a tach w/ shift light..and MSD wires and a Blaster coil.. Damn...there goes all my money. : /

Sorry Nixon, I meant I put my MSD wires back on. I have the Accel 300+ instead of the MSD 6AL. I went with the Accel one because it was smaller and I could mount in a cool place, right in front of my air filter next to the charcoal canister, plus it was very easy to install, just plug and play once the box was mounted
I can't really say how much the 300+ or the 6AL makes an improvement by itself since I upgraded every ignition piece on my car.
With the Coil, 300+, better distributor caps and rotor, Accel ignition module, Bosch + 4s, and my old Crane Cams 8mm wires, I saw a pretty dramatic milage.
Before the combo, I had to fill my tank at 220. After the combo, I got almost 100 miles more out of the same tank of gas. My mpg went from 15/22 (city/hiway) to 20/26. According my calculations over the 1.5 years since I got the combo, I saved roughly $270 in gas that would have otherwise been consumed. So my combo literally payed for itself.
I can't say it will do the same for you, but it sure did help me a lot.

Thanks man.. I don't have a lot of money to work with, so I'm just gonna get that MSD box, and buy the Superconductor wires, and an MSD replacement coil...and wire it all up..and get a tach if I can find one cheap. The other accessories and cool crap will have to wait.

I only got all that other cool ignition stuff because I had a lot of ignition problems in the past so I went to the extremes of just replacing everything at the same time so I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.
I also have a high torque starter and a 900 amp truck battery which barely fits in the battery location. I know this is for sure, now my car always starts. I have enough electrical current to make my car almost unstallable at any rpm. Hasn't stalled once since I put in all that ignition stuff either.
That is why I did, about 400 bucks total over a 2 month period. That is kind of expensive for just ignition stuff, but it was worth it to me to not have to deal with electrical problems. The extra mpg I gained from it was just a bonus.
On the box, get one that has the wiring harness so you don't have to splice any wires. I think the MSD 6AL performs the same as the Accel 300+ for what they do.

ok, well first off i wanted to say sorry for my horrible spelling in my previous post, 2nd of all,i tested my mpg these few weeks, ok with 1/8th of a tank left in my car i put in 12.2 gallons ($20..i hate gas prices) i drove it hard like i always do, i got 182 miles before i got the the same spot..and *&^% was i good i filled it up again 12.2 gallons..but this time i drove like a man in his mid 40's and only gased it hard entering interstates, i got 193 miles....so that proves 2 things 1) i get 14.75 mpg, and 2) that comparing driving hard and fast to easy and slow....is 11 miles really worth that fun u could have had with all those fast take offs and little **** rocket street races?

It is if you are broke.
On my trip back from Urbana, Illinois to Carbondale, Illinois, taking the long way of 200 miles, I used up less than half of tank of gas.
So at 201.9 miles and filling it back to the top with 6.856 gallons of gas, that gives me 29.44 miles to the gallon that I got on the trip.
That included driving through the little towns at 30-40 mph, half of it on the hiway going 58 with the occassional spurts going to 95 mph on long straight aways. I also did a couple kind of hard launces up to 50 mph.
If I had not witnessed this myself, I would have thought I was talking
like some of you may be thinking right now.I really know how to stretch out that gas and make it last.

Punk. I miss my V6!!! AGGGHHH. I drove 50 miles yesterday, stops and go at speeds from 30 to 45 mph, and wasted damn near a half tank of gas. That equates to a conservative 12 mpg. Quite possibly less. I had to readjust the fan kick switch this morning...it sucked so much gas yesterday cause the damn thing was running cold again and the ECM kept going into 'choke mode' and dumping gas in to heat the engine up ,while the fan kicked on to keep it cold!! Who could've thought 10-12 mpg was possibly on an fuel injected engine, huh? I am the man!

My Camaro..I dunno, but it got a hell of a lot better! I think the Camaro got around 17 or 18 city and maybe 20-22 highway.

Sorry to hear about that Nixon. It also helps to live in a hilly area. I can accelerate up a hill to 95 and coast for a good 2 miles letting the natural momentum propel me forward until my speed gradually slowing down to 50 then I would do the process over again. With hills, I can use about 1/3 less fuel than on a straight road.
back with the 2.8 i've hit at 275, i'd like to say 300 but i filled up again just in case.
with the 3.4 the most i've done has bee 240... i've lost gas mileage... ::shrugs::
then again my driving style isn't skipping hand in hand with gas mileage... sooooooo ya.

I just beat my own record again, My all time high is now 348 miles on one tank. I think I got that milage because of the gas which contained 10% ethanol in it. I don't like the way it gives off a smell when burnt. I was wondering why the 90 octane with 10% ethanol was cheaper than the 87 octane.
Also, on the last 2 miles a large plastic tarp got under my car and got wedged underneath the a arm and was burning on my y-pipe. I was wondering what the funny smell was. I thought it was just someone burning something outside. Someone finally pulled up next to me and told me a bag was under my car.
LOL, I was wondering why people in other cars were laughing and looking at my car wierd - cause I had a big A$$ tarp draging in the wind like a flag. Only a little bit of the tarp burned on my y-pipe. I got all the plastic off, so my car is fine now.
The next time I see a plastic tarp or bag flying towards my car - I am going to swerve and avoid. When I saw that tarp going across my lane - I thought it was just going to hit my airdam exit to the side of the road, and I really did not anticipate it getting caught under my wheels.

With mine, I've gotten to about 270 roughly. Prolly more, but my memory fails me. I rarely let it go to a 1/4 tank, don't feel like pushing it home, LOL.

drove 200 miles from my home to my school, stopped the car, unloaded some crap, drove 1.5 hours to my g/fs place maybe another 60 miles (highway and backroads, wasn't doing 60 the whole way) and then drove back, so another 60 miles. I'm trying to estimate low, should pull up mapquest to see...nehoots, that was 320 miles, but i was really really pushing it at the end, and milkin every last gallon. woulda filled up in that town, but there was no 24/7 station, and i didn't pass any on the rural missouri backroads.

I coulda swore I posted on this... sad to think, but I don't remember what kind of mileage I was getting. I think I was doing around the 320 per tank mark.
342 in my v8 with 3.42's...pulled over and put 15.1 gallons in. This was also in 40 degree weather, so i'm sure that if it woulda been warmer (or if I'd have had my cutout cap on) then i woulda got more.
My v6 i think was ~300.

In the 2 mos the bird was running (if you call it that
), I went about 250 miles on 1 3/4 tank. Yes that also included about half of that in the fom of black soot out the tail pipe. Furthest in GP was 375miles w/wife & kid on vacation w/trunk packed.
I plan to get a whole lot better milage w/the new engine, not withstanding any more engine fires (knocks on wood)

last time was 280 in germany. now that the car should be adjusted to WA, i'll start finding out tomorrow and edit in the mileage.
miles on tank........300-330
estimated mileage....25-27 i think
I'll try again and get an average, I think my car was still adjusting itself on the first try.

Whatcha driving? Sounds a lot like my car..
84 berlinetta, actually i think it got good gas mileage on the last tank before it died. the transmissions messed up or a vaccuum line or something, cant get it over 30 something mph , its like neutral after that, but i dont hear any bad noises so i dont know whats wrong

Just throwing this in there...
my 355 TPI nets 25-28 MPG highway every day too and from work.
It took 42* of timing in the right places, and a very very tight fuel map with a very good transport delay setting on the O2 sensor to get there, and im still messing with it.
I run 87 Octane.
Here is a S/H of my spark map. As you can see, i run a really really tight quick timing curve. Its still being tuned, but you get the idea.
Goes to show you that a radical V8 making decent power can still acheive good fuel economy.
