3.1 stalls in reverse

i recently fixed a vaccum leak that was causing my rpms the bounce a whole lot and car to stall when coming to a stop

after that was fixed i immediately noticed that when i would paralel park my car in front of my house it would stall when taking it from drive to reverse

wtf could this be?????? i took it to my local trustworth garage and none of the guys down there have any clue as to what could be the problem

while thinking i had this awful thought that somehow it could be my tranny but i have no clue

any suggestions??

If the car has pretty much always done this I'd suggest a MEMCAL upgrade. The latest MEMCAL for a 3.1 auto is AZTY1407. Just check yours first, it is inside of the ECM (under dash on passenger side).

Battery hasn't been disconnected recently has it?

Of course a good throttle body cleaning may also be in order. . . The tune up OK?

RBob.

Isn't accompanied by any nasty noises or anything is it?

Does it stall in shifts too and from, or does it stall while backing up, on a hill, with the wheel turned. My oldsmobile had this problem. It would stall in Reverse with a hard strain on it. I was told it was just age and milage of the car. Parts were pretty worn down. I mean the engine had 320,000 km on it, and no one knows the tranny milage, so It was probably pretty low on extra hp, couldn't handle all the componets at once...

But I am assuming your problem is vaccum related, or something along those lines.

What kind of rpms do you have, I know in the morning when its cold my car will sometimes try to stall when I put in reverse. It usually goes down to 400 or 350is rpms and tries to stall but I just give it a little gas to keep up the revs.

Why it stalls is pretty simple if ya realize what happens.
First thing ya do is hit the brakes which draws vacuum from engine, causing it to "idle slightly slower".
Then pop into reverse & you bring down revs more.
More than anything else, age of parts in motor is the cause.
IF ya have low engine vacuum reading at a light or in revese,
Check vacuum leaks (I noticed you did that, but check UNDERSIDE of hoses at EGR area & all other places, again-really)
Tune up lately?
Last thing is
check timng chain stretch.
Simply done, put 17mm socket/ratchet on crank, pop off distb cap, BY HAND rotate engine, & notice if the rotor cap moves instantly or slightly later on.
Another way to combat timing chain stretch is raise idle of ride, by rotating distb toward firewall.
This trick compensates for a stretched chain.
Or do as most, foot on gas & brake, raise revs slightly, put into reverse.
Really it's aged parts you have in your ride.
What's the milage on current engine?
