Question for Dale

I was reading your post about how you just finished your 3.4L swap and it said you lost all your low end power. Why is that? Is it the engine or is it something you did? I am currently searching for an engine to swap out my 2.8. Im jonesin for more power in that thing . Oh yea, hows it running for ya so far?

I swapped in a whole 3.4l SFI-DIS engine, wiring, injection and all, which it was a TBI-Distributor based engine. Also my old 2.8l had about every bolt on go-go goodie avaliable for it, my new engine only has headers, and 8mm spark plug wires. I am even running the junkiest set of plugs I had.

I got a few bugs worked out last night, took it for a drive. I am slowly being able to spin my tires on every issue I work out on it.

No engine swap is perfect from the begnning!!!!

would it work to keep the 3.4L intake but keep it distributor not go to DIS? or will the 2.8 intake work just fine without porting at all?

I have been told that the 3.4l intake wont work with distrib due to it hitting. However, I have seen pics with the two together.

IMO the 3.4l intake looks better, however, the 2.8/3.1 intake is better.

If your going to do a 3.4l swap, I suggest doing the "stealth" swap that is refured to 95% of the time on here.

3.4: block, heads, cam, crank, pistons, injectors.

2.8/3.1: valve covers, oil pan, timing chain, distrib, intake, belt driven accy, tb, fuel rail, fuel lines.

I know they are still in the process of making an oversized TB for it, where the 2.8/3.1 Tb is already out.

As I said, distrib and 3.4 intake can be done, (see pic I try to attach below)

So if you like it, and can figure out what to do to "fix" it so it will work, and re-run vac lines, give it a try. I read that the lower intake section is diff also, but dont see why.

do you know what the differences between the two intakes are? it would seem that the 3.4 intake would have larger ports for the heads on it than the 2.8. im just wondering how to get the most out of the engine, and only have to do it all once, not tear apart again and again.
