my bird is finally getting put on the road!

well guys after owning the car for over a year now im finally getting it put on the road. what has been taking me so long is that i had to send the title in to the DMV to get it changed from my grandfathers name to mine. i get the title on tues. im so excited. most likely this next fri i will be hitting the 1/4 mi strip which is about 30 min away from me. one tech ques. what do u guys recoment for a plug gap? i put split fire platnums in and i gapped them at the stock .045 i have heard that if i bump it up to .050 it will help a little. also im gonna run 215-65-15 tires on the back instead of the 255-60-15's what should i run for air pressure in them? also the fronts? also is there any other quick tunnies i can do to it before i go? thanks....

Why are you only gonna run the 215's? You're gonna slaughter your 60' dude! Uhm.....my best guess is 25 psi in the rear and 35 psi up front. Just make sure you reinflate the rears after you're done, cause operating range is 30-35....

RUN THE 255's IN THE BACK MAN!! You'll never get anywhere with the 215's.

perhaps... either way, run it and see. Post the timeslip!

I'm tired of being the only 2.8 with a timeslip up on here.

i was thinking of putting the 215-65-15's on the back to run at the track just because it is a smaller tire highth wise and width wise which i always thought the motor could use less power to turn them instead of the 255-60-15's which are a lot bigger. i always thought the smaller the tire the less power the car had to use to turn them. both tires are in good shape the 255's are in excellent shape.

ive also been playing with the car tonight on my road. i ended up setting the shift light at 4600rpm instead of 5000rpm. it doesnt feel like im gaining much more power up there. i know it sounds weird but tthats what im felling. so im staying with 4600rpm. as for the trany nothing has been done with it but when i shift up from first to second it shifts fast with no delay (which is great). we will see what we can put out of her next week

Do you have the 3.1 stroke kit on your motor? If you do, that would explain the lower powerband.

Feels like you have more power with thinner tires because there's less rubber to the road, making burnouts easier. For launching it, you want as much contact as possible. Ala, the 255's. When you've got more tire back there, you can load up more rpms on takeoff and you don't have to granny it as much. I want me some 275's...these 245's I've got aren't cutting it with well over 300 ft lbs right now...

And ACTUALLY, the 255's are an all-around better choice, because of the second number as well...sidewall height... The higher the number, the taller the tire....the taller the tire, the taller it makes your effective rear end gear ratio. So by using the 255's, which have 5 less on the sidewall, you are slightly lowering your rear end gear ratio by the time it hits the ground.

i was playing with it more last night and when i did some out of the hole runs i can stall it to about 1700rpm and when i let off and floor it i just fry the 215-65-15's all the way through first gear. soo im gonna run the 255-60-15's on the back. im gonna run my tire pressures at 40psi in the front and 25psi in the rear. im gonna mess with plug gap and see if i feel a difference too

dude, let it hook first before you floor it. like they said put the 255's on the rear. use the 215's up front.

are you gonna be @ the East Coast Fbody Nationals on August 16th @ E-town? you got all the time to prep and practice launch. i wanna run you.

well i got the car on the road on thursday. needless to say i didnt get to the track. im out crusing for the first time with my girl on thur afternoon and i was heading to the gas station and then ym car started poping and backfireing like crazy. it was poping and backfireing like crazy until ti just stalled going down the road. it did it 2 times before i got to the gas station. got there put $15 worth of 93 in it started out again and it did it again. now it will hardly stay running. i go to a persons house and call my dad (owns a garage) he comes and tows it and he says it might be fuel or electrical. first thing we do is unhook my accel super coil and hook up the stock replacement one i had on there before. i go and test drive it and everything is great car runs beautiful. my brand new accel coil was junk. tonight i got out of work at 10:30band was heading to the g/f's and i came to a street stoped no trafic so i stoped and floored it and cranked the wheel and spun he sideways and kept going. got to the next stop and hit the gas and bank from underneath.... i busted another trany mount. so 2marrow i need to change that. i will see the track this friday. other than that the cars runnin great

That's why I stay away from Accel.... I run strictly MSD....half because I like the brand, and half because I like the color - bright red!!
Damn dude...you break tranny mounts like it's no one's business! Maybe you should consider trying to find some better mounts! Wonder if they make solid tranny mounts, like they make solid motor mounts...
