Hope For Supercharging your v-6

I know that no company makes a system for our poor little 60* engines. I was at school to day and this one kid tells me now he went to a company called Pro Deisel. They have old deisel turbos laying around. And NO not just the huge things you see on the simis. They are going to let me have a housing and an impeller with bearings for like $150. This is not going to be added on as a trubo but rather geared for a supercharger. All i will have to do is the bracket, buy a pully, gear it up, and run tubes. I asked they guy for a housing and impeller for about 8-15psi and he said noproblem. So hopefully i can make this work and for under $250 have a supercharger that works half as well as a vortech. Hey for the money not bad.

Just an idea. I would look around at a place like this around you and see if they have old parts laying around. You do need to probly find out the psi you want and what rpm you need for it, but hey it could and should work.

Also the guy at this place has said that he gets asked for something like this all the time, and he has seen a turbo-supercharger transformation many times and they have all worked.

Just remember that the turbos had oil lined to and from the engine, and that will have to be reproduced or else the unit isn't going to last very long at all. I have heard of people making those, but they usually have to run a double pully system to get the impeller spinning fast enough to make any boost whatsoever. If you just stick a pully on there that is about 1/4th the diameter of your crank pulley, then you will turn 4 times the RPM of the crank, or about 20,000 RPM at redline. That might actually make a couple of pounds of boost, but not a whole lot. Most turbos can spin at nearly 100,000 RPM when making full boost. I'm not saying that you have to do this or that you won't be able to make boost without gearing the thing up more, but that it is quite possible that your impeller will need to turn a lot of RPMs to get you any results. The bigger the turbo, the less RPM you will need to turn it to make boost. Also, the smaller your pulley on the turbo gets, the more likely the belt is to start slipping when you are making boost.

Just some random thoughts. This idea has been kicked around on these boards several times before, but nobody has yet stepped up to the plate and done it. You could be the first. Good luck.

Well today i went out and i think that i found a larger belt to acomidate for the extra amount of length i will need to add it. And also found 2 pullies, one about 1.5" in dia and antother about 2".

Unfortunetly i know that i need more RPM but i dont know if i really want to get a gear box mounted on. I'm still in school and that is the only machine shop that i can go to to get this thing done. It is a small turbine and hosing but i belive that if i can get about 30,000 RPM i should be able to produce some boost, maybe around 4-5lbs. It may not sound like much but not too bad for only about $200, when its all said and done.

Any ideas where to mount this thing, its about 9-10" in dia. Any more help would be nice.

Also how large in dia is the crank pully?
