Not 100% sure (haven't installed one on my car) but since it's less rotating mass, I believe your car gets up to speed quicker.
Is that correct? Or am I way off?

i have heard along same lines. carbon fiber flywheels do the same thing. the less mass spinning the more horsepower you put to the wheels.

aluminum driveshafts are about 5 pounds lighter. 5 pounds of rotational mass is like removing 50 pounds of static mass.

i can get custom aluminum driveshafts that will handle 1000 hp for around $230.
don't feel so bad about the mustang price the quality of the motorsports shaft is not very good the shafts are usually slightly bent in the center.
