I am going nuts with these brakes.
Okay, here is my story. I replaced my calipers, rotors, pads and soft lines last weekend. Even bought new anit-rattle clips for the inside pads.
Bled the brakes and all was well, the car stopped so i was happy
Now, those damn inner pads are rattling like crazy when i hit bumps!!!!!!1
Driving me mad, i am going to take everything apart AGAIN this weekend and try to solve the problem.
Does anyone have any tips to help my get rid of this annoyance?
Thank you very much

Did you bend the tabs for the outer brake pads? Also, are you sure it is the brakes? Did any fenders or hood latches or lower fender braces or battery or etc loosen up? Try tapping the fenders with the side of your fist; see if anything rattles. Also when you take the wheels off, try to wiggle the pads before taking the caliper off; see if anything moves excessively.
yeah i bent the outer tabs down(to make them tighter)
I am sure it is the inner pad, my ranger had that problem once, its like the damn caliper is too big for the pads.
Maybe the clips are off, but both sides at the same time?

Check your caliper bushings where the rods that hold the calipers in place go, I just replaced my brakes 3 weeks ago and had a nasty screeching noise before I did, come to find out I was missing a bushing, dunno something you could check, just might be it.

Lots of "stop squeak" goo all over the pad backing plate contact points- I was ready to by Bear brakes for this car just to get the darn pads from rattling- ended up using the goo and it worked (the spray stuff didn't.)

im willing to bet that your caliper bolt grommets are gone or worn out. i had a very similare problem a while back. take your caliper bolts out. there should be rubber grommet/oring things in the 2 holes the bolt has to pass through. if these are missing your caliper will rattle. i did this a few weeks ago and the rattle is completely gone. u can tell if u need the grommets if u can move your caliper up and down with your hand while everything is bolted down and it makes a rattle.

There is not a part on my car that was not replaced with new- I'm talking even new titanium caliper pins & collars, new calipers, new everything. Mine still rattled- What I have found out is that the tolerances of the brake pads vary even with the same manufacturer. Some have more slop in the backing plates then others- So again if this is a problem, then use the goo everywhere the ears and tabs meet the calipers. I have had no problem with the pads "hanging up" because of the stop squeak goo and the ears of the pads and the rattles have been gone for 6 months now.Originally posted by TekViper

i have one brake pad that i can move up and down with my hand, and i never hear it rattle. are u sure u have those little rubber oring things in the holes where the caliper bolt slides through? i had no idea those existed until i had that rattle and someone suggested that to me. i was missing a few of those completely.

Yes, my "rubber oring things" are new- I guess you aren't familiar with my car?
I will try that goop stuff, i do have another non-thirdgen question(maybe a mod wont read this far down, lol)
My 95 jimmy has a strange brake noise.
Say you were rolling to a stop, you have now come to a complete stop.
You are holding the brake enough to hold the truck stilll, but if you press any harder you get a metal to metal popping sound?
At first i thought maybe something front end related(bal joints) But it makes the noise after i have completely stopped. So the truck is not moving.
Then i thought maybe my rattle clips were making that noise inside the piston. I took it apart, did not see any evidence of any metal to metal rubbing(no scratches or clean spots)
Maybe my o-rings where the pins slide through?
It has to be related to something moving when i press the pedal, bad caliper maybe?

Could the booster be loose at the firewall? Or the master cylinder loose to the booster? Or maybe some pivot bolt (sorry don't know how the brake pedal attaches to the booster) has elongated it's hole from years of useage, and it's the pedal popping as it shifts position? Just guessing..
What pads did you use, 9D1? My Bendix semi-met's, MKD-154, come with shims rivited to the back of the inner pad, like an anti-squeak. It started around '97. Before that, they used to give you a packet of the blue goop for anti-squeaking.

The noise on my jimmy is def coming from behind the wheel. I knelt down beside it and the gf push the pedal.
I am not sure of the pads i used. Maybe they sold me the cheap pads, i bought a ton of stuff that day. I am noticing very little brake dust(almost none) from these pads, which is a huge improvment over the last ones.
I think i will try to "goop" it up. Thanks
