Compression value and tune-up
What's a good compression reading on the 2.8? I can't find a value in the GM shop manual, and the Haynes book says N/A which I hope means not available as opposed to not applicable.
And I'm doing some work on my car this weekend. New distributor, module, pick-up, rotor, cap, wires, coil, coil harness, lower rad hose, coolant flush, heater hoses... I'll let you know how it goes.

Mine said 160 across every single cylinder. I think that's normal, never had anyone tell me it's not...and I took that reading after getting a valve job, so there better not have been any carbon build up in there.

Mine ran 160 all the way across. it's not the number you're worried about, but consistancy between them
You want less than 10% difference.

Thanks guys. I know that consistency is important, but to be quite honest, in all the work I've done on my car, I've never checked the compression. Never been concerned about it. But lately I've been concerned that it may be too high.

If it's higher than normal it's probably buildup in the combustion chambers/on the pistons.
