valve cover filters...

Has anyone installed the small air filters that fit on top of the valve covers (where the pcv goes)?

If so, did you notice any difference.

Dont put them on all they are for is looks. If you use them your car will build up pressure and you will begin to blow oil seals becasue the engine sucks the pressure out. This is what i have been told. Ive also herd that it hurts performance.

They're called "breather"s and they aren't a good idea on our cars.

But I thought, instead of blow-by gasses going back into the intake, it would vent it out of the engine completely via breather filter.

Wouldn't that create more horses since only new air/fuel mixture goes into the combustion chamber, instead of a mixture of blow-by gasses and air/fuel.

I don't know, maybe I got the whole concept wrong.

You'll really be ****ing with all the pressures inside the crankcase.

Plus some of that remixed air coming in has unburnt fuel in it.

Do a search on breather and read the more technical aspects of it.

Some say you can do it, but not to put it on the same side as you PCV valve.

The blowby gas is very small. if you wanted to get a breather filter put it on the passanger side valve cover but get the breather with a filter in it and a spot to put a hose so you can hook it up to your intake so then you wont be putting the burnt oil in your intake. If you clean your intake every few months everything should be fine and you shouldnt have to use a breather. It will also mess with your emissions and i have herd it can throw out a SES light. And you will be blowing oil gaskets. Think what happens when you blow up a ballon too much it pops. Why it has too much pressure in it. The same will happen with your oil gaskets they will pop like the ballon.
