Hey guys,

I just bought a 91 bird and a pretty weird thing happened today.
I was showing the car to a friend and when he started the car and goosed it, the car made this rattling noise and something even hit me, it didnt feel like metal though. It sounded like something was boucing around, like when you put ice cubes in a blender. The thing is, i was messing around with the car earlier today and it didnt make that noise when I goosed it. I should also mention that my friend did this when the car was cold.

Thanks guys

Give your friend a smack for me... any idea of how high (rpm's) he revved the motor?

Might be nothing big (like a loose exhaust hanger), or something mildly serious (like an old catalytic convertor whose pellet bed has broken up due to age, and can clog the exhuast and turn your car into a slow-moving-vehicle), or something really bad (busted lifters).

Might be a good idea to try revving it when it's warm and see if the noise returns; if it doesn't, just don't rev the motor when it's cold.

i think in between 4 and 5 thousand. I got number of the mechanic that had been working on the car before i bought it so i think i should get in touch with him. Hey by the way i saw some rust on the pipes, should i change em or what do you suggest?

I wouldn't doubt if your cat has bit the dust, but i can't really make that assumptino giving that i don't know the car or anything like that....don't let ur friend rev ur engine up, if he blows it up he pays for it, if you do atleast you won't have to rip your friend a new one. As for replacing the pipes, it won't do anything but help you. I'd mostl ikely say buy urself a catback system to replace everything from the catalytic converter to the tailpipes, you'll have a performance increase along with a better looking better flowing exhaust system. By the way, welcome to the boards.

thanks for the info 85! It kinda sounded like there was a dry leaf stuck in there getting smashed by the band gears or something like that. I think its weird that it only did it when he rev the engine
