AM91, please don't get me wrong- you have a fast V6 car. I just took offense when you somewhat told me I'm full of it to think my 2.8 car is only about a 1/2 sec off your time. I am older than most here (37) and have owned and still own several show and race quality cars. This little V6 Camaro is a toy for me. The wife has driven it as her daily driver for years and loves it. Now that my daughter is getting older (Almost 12) I have decided to go through it and really modify the heck out of it( I built it mildly years back wehn she was a baby- but kept it softer and forgiving, not to bouce her brain out of her head). I think its a nice looking car still and would like to keep it becase I have grown attached to it. Point is- I probably have alot more disposible income than most of you younger guys because of my age and career statis (thats normal) you guys will too at my age. Just understand that there is a few of us out here that have been around the block a few times with several different built cars. I know a few tricks in this world to get a notoriously slow car moving- but yes it does cost money.
Best regards.

The tranny for starters has a 13 vane pump, blueprinted valve body, .521 boost valve, lightweight & hardened imput and output shafts, Billet servo 10 clutch pack, I could go on if I remebered more- I watched Jimmy (Darrel Youngs)build it and we spared no expense and mail ordered all the trick stuff and then he had his convertor shop build me a custom 1 of a kind 9" lightweight convertor that fits a custom 30spline V6 imputshaft. The holding pressure on this trans is incredible- I have the same basic setup in my 300+hp worktruck that I pound daily(only that has an over the counter convertor both with about 1800 stall for daily use.

Um... as far as the tranny... yay?

You've still got an auto. And no matter how much you do to it, it's still not as much fun as a stick shift. LOL

This ani't no Jet Performance transmission or a B&M shift kit- this thing is worked. If you drove it once you'd change your opinion real quick. You can drive it just like a stick- up shift or downshift- bam, its there- I have driven many a performance manuals- One of my older brothers has a '64 roadster Vette with a bowtie aluminum block and a Richmond 6-speed, My Vette has a Muncie R22 rockcrusher 4-speed(straight cut gears) Believe me, I know manuals- take my word for it, nothing is as fun as the auto tranny in the Camaro. Its almost like having paddle shifters.

do you have full automatic too? cause i know a guy who has a 74 camaro with a small block and he's runnin a 700r4 with a manual valve body. it upshifts and downshifts right when you hit the ratchet shifter.

yes, I still run only the gas V8 governor in it (Not the Vette Gov) so I can retain a normal rpm shift on the street with regular driving- shifts at aprox 4200 with mildly agressive throttle, and 5000 with full throttle Manually I will take it to 5400 and bump it. The pressures are so high in it that with the Vette governor it would hold through the roof- probably would shift around 7000rpm's- can't have that. Even with the new motor, which will top 7000+ rpm's(maybe even 8000 depending on how much we can shape and harden the DIS crank) I will still leave the V8 gov in it so I can manually short shift it on a road course.

you only run it up to 5400? i run mine to about 6000. thursday night i hit the rev limiter on the track once, i'm not 100% sure what rpm that is at though but atleast 6600-6800...atleast.

Power flattens out quick after 4800. Power band on it is between 3600-4800. That is where it pulls best with the stock exhaust manifolds I grinded them for better flow when I put the new 2.8 in it- but it still lacks bigtime. What kills me in this car is when I hit 3rd- My rpm drop is too much under the curve for the 3.23's. From about 70-80/85 it hurts- bad rpm range then picks back up. Car is good from 85-110 range But lacks displacement.

First pull fine to 5400 (40 mph)start bump at 5400- motor climbs to about 5600 during that time- human reaction time, not tranny.

2nd comes in slightly low at 3000 slight lag for a instant then pulls good to 4900 (aprox 70 mph)

goes into 3rd at 3000- and is dead in the water until about 85mph. Third will pull this car to 130mph at about 5400. I have only done this once that high in the r's for that long in 3rd( goes into overdrive if lifted at just shy of 4000 rpms) its all shes got. 4th will pull it up there(125ish) if I stay just off full throttle- but it takes longer- much longer. I cruise mostly around 85 mph when I drive it on open freeways, so this ratio gives me a good powerband when I kick down from overdrive. Plus gives me low drivetrain/motor noise and good milage at that speed.

Works for me when I drive it- thats not too often. Its great around town for the wife, she doesn't do freeways that much.

I should also note that when we timed it in a marked off 1/4- I ran it through the finish mark still in 2nd at about 5800 rpms to help avoid the 3rd gear lag. I don't like to do that kind of r's on this stock bottom end too often. The rockers are magnum 1.52's.

i can't wait to go back to the track now cause i've got my new high stall convertor in and i put a set of hypertech underdrive pulleys on it today too. i still cannot get my aldl software to scan the $88 mask though. if anyone has any modified files that work, please let me know. i am trying to use moate's software now but i'll try any of them!
