Question on recalls.
Ok, call me dumb if you will. But say I have a car that had a recall on it, although I am not the original owner and its 12 years late, can I still call a dealership or even chevrolet to address the problem? I doubt it but just wondering if anyone has. Thanks.

From my experience, if the mfg puts a recall out on the car, anyone can take the car in and have it performed.
MFG only sends out recall notices on main safty issues. They do internal recalls that whenever a car is brought in, they are to perform it.

You could drag car in from the junkyard and amke them fix the recalls but you may need to make a big of guff to make them honor it.
I had a dealer offer me a car for $100 buck over the phone and then jacked it up to $500 when I got there. After sicking my Grandma on him, I got the car for $100. Shw had worked in sales for years and knew the laws.
Id just make sure and know your rights befoe you go, what recalls you qualify for and make sure and stand your ground.
Or sick your Grandma on them too.

Recalls apply to the car, not the owner, so it doesn't matter WHO takes it in.
I'd call first and give them your VIN. They can look up if the recalls have been performed already or not.
I took my 92 Firebird in for its recalls.
I haven't yet checked my Z.

If it's a -safety- recall, it's good forever, as long as their records show the vin as not being repaired.
But other recalls, it's up to the dealer. You won't get too much leeway with that one. Don't forget, dealers don't make any money on the recalls. They'd rather do oil changes.
See http://www.alldata.com and visit the DIY link for recall information. And if you haven't gotten your seatbelt latches fixed yet, go do it!! (A fixed latch will have a red button with a silver clip on the side. A latch that hasn't been repaired will probably have a bright pink button due to sun fade of the inferior plastic.)

Good tip Tom but that $24.95 a pear per car could be a waste if you find nothing.
Maybe it would be better to just spend the $25 on a dealer oil change and also request a recall check.
Unless someone has paid the $25 for DYI and found it well worth it.
