Hey I got a 88 camaro that needs your help. Its v6/auto of course and just cant get out of its own damn way. Yesterday when we first tore into it, it wouldnt pull more than 2k rpms. Now after we put plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, changed the oil, and replaced the cat with a straight pipe it will pull up to 75 but this is with it on the floor. We also set the timing at 5 degrees with the advance unhooked and we checked the fuel pressure on the rail and it was at 38 psi at idle. When accelerating the whole car shakes and it is just anemic as hell. I understand it is a v6 but hell it should be able to get up to speed without shaking something terrible and without putting it to the floor. On top of this we went to put fuel in it and it was leaking something terrible out of the front of the tank, kinda running off of the muffler heat sheild and running out on the ground. What does this mean? Are the 2 problems related? Also the trans doesnt want to shift down at all and just seems happy whatever gear its in. Are these problems related? Please help me ASAP

5 degrees of advance is way retarded for these motors. Bump it to at LEAST 10. 10 is stock. See what happens then.

The trans sounds like a poorly adjusted TV cable to me.

Your fuel leak is possibly at the O-ring for the fuel sending unit.

Is your tank full? If your tank is leaking and was leaking last time you filled it, you will have overfilled it due to gasses in the tank that are normally sealed in to give a buffer space for the evaporative emissions and pressure relief lines to not be in liquid fuel.. You'll end up pulling liquid fuel into your evaporative emissions canister, and getting unmetered fuel entering the throttle body via the evaporative emissions purge line. I find it amazing cars run like this at all. Fix the leaks at the tank before doing further diagnostics.
