1/4 mile times
Ok, I read that whgole other "1/4 mile times" thread and got next to nothing out of it. My question is:
How fast should a 3rd gen with a 3.4 be going in the 1/4 mile?
I took my car to the track last year with the auto and my 1/4 mile times were pathetic (I wont even mention what they were). I swapped in a T5 and Im hoping they improved but still didnt get to the track yet.
My auto shifted at about 4k rpm last time I raced it. I didnt really want to blow anything though so I didnt really go too hard on the car. After all, I did want to get home that night.
I guess to get an accurate 1/4 mile time Id have to put it to the floor and redline it but do you guys have any other tips to get faster times?
BTW: I just did a tuneup w/ k&n's, accel 8mm wires, etc.

3.4s should go about 16.3-16.4 i think. yea, you're gonna have to get on it all the way to really get a time from it.

hmmm
the first time I took mine to the track, I ran a calculated (from 1/8 mile) 16.8~ . Aftr the hedders went on, I went back and cut a tenth off the time (out of 3 runs with hot weather
). I couldn't get traction for anything the second time out. My MPH went from 62mph before hedders to 64.6 after. With a 5spd and a GOOD driver, I would imagine someone could go really low 16's or high 15's. Don't get me wrong, I've had nothing but tuning problems with this car, so this isn't what a "well tuned" 3.4 conversion will do. After the cam and nitrous, things will be different. I'll do comparative runs for the guys on here with just the cam combo, so people can decide how it changes things (Doward runs the same cam on the 3.1). I'd like to get a MODS VS. GAINS database started for the 60* family. Tgis way people will know what works. I think I'll start a post

im not too sure if this applies here, but last night i went to the dragstrip and ran a best of 17.135 in my fully stock 2.8...
60'-2.438
330'-7.082
1/8-10.956
@63.40
1000-14.313
1/4-17.135
@79.46
but my reaction time was an awful .455
well i think all my post proves is that the 3.4 is already faster than the 2.8

when i ran mine, id hold it at about 2500 till the light hit and took each gear up to the redline. i crossed the line in 3rd gear at about 6000 rpms. yea she was good and redlined. thats how i ran my best times. at the time i wasnt getting the best traction either. i have since put on spohn control arms and relocation brackets and it has made a big difference, but i havent run since they were installed.

every car will run something different.
Rear gear ratio?
Auto/vs manual (weight, and shift points)
how whipped the engine is (even if its 3.4)
how well tunned the engine is
how well up-kept the car/suspension is?
power windows, locks, etc? All makes difference..
Birds are more arrow dynamic then maros
So many factors, we cant tell you exact. We can guess-ta-mate though.
