below 13 but everything is good?
battery voltage reads inside the car at about 11v. checked it with my DMM and it has the battery at 12.78 with car off. still the battery is good when i cut it on and get a reading from the Dmm. went to autozone to get a new one and the guy who works on camaros checked it out and all the things came out good. one thing that did strike me is that, when i was driving on saturday, the voltage was down to8 and shoot right up when i started driving. the voltage actually stays at 11v and the car has no problem starting up. the altenator is also new and the battery is pretty much new. do you guys think that the magnet that goes there in the dash is going out? it seems to have gotten stuck when it went down to 8v. what could the problem be?

gauge cluster ground failure, most likely. Check with DMM in car with car running. Also, look for funky things, like gauges bouncing with turn signal or cluster lights.

Oh ok. there is no bouncing around at all. the only thing that also trips is the speedometer. it raises hesitaintly but it does work. what is this cluster ground you are talking about, where is it located and can you send a picture sir? is it difficult to replaceor am i just taking off the dash?

If there's no other interesting behavior out of the right side of the cluster, particularly the tach, ground failure isn't likely. Check voltage in car with DMM when running.
