Cool junkyard find

I got a 91 firebird nose and the back bumper structure and impact bar for $10, and the 120 mph gauge cluster for $10! Is there any way that I can use my v6 tach with this cluster?

was it a v8 cluster? i do know that some birds came with higher clusters in the later years, however, your cluster in the 85 will be cable driven and the newer one will be electric, so you'll be under the car swapping the vss sender to an electric version. youll also be re-wiring things behind the dash as the guages might be in different locations. If it's a v8 car, and was simply plug and play (and you coudlnt re-use ur tach) then u'd have it reading a tad higher than it should as my 4th gen tach does right now. Another point, the new guage cluster will be back lit, and ur old 85 simply reflects red light from behind, using the old tach, might look...ummm, tacky.

good finds on though. I've got a 140mph cluster that'll never get used sitting over here from a bird that we found in the yards....I never used it cause i didn't think that the effect was worth the time/energy however the same amount of work for an entire 4th gen dash setup is more than worth my labor...i think.

My firebird is an 86. My old 85 camaro sport coupe was the black 85. I put it in tonight and it is pretty cool. Yeah, the tach reads low, definately.

You can replace a capacitor on the tach board to correct the reading. IIRC there is a post on the electronics board with pic's.
