What gauge cluster(s) will interchange w/ the 2.8L MPFI ?

1 or 2 gauges work on my '89 2.8L MPFI Camaro RS.
I'd like to think that "a number of gauge clusters" will interchange with this model.

Can anyone help?

Anything from an 82-90 Camaro will swap directly in; only difference would be those with and without gauges will require the appropriate sending units for oil pressure and coolant temp.
And a V6 tach would be a plus...

Thanks Petes 84Z28,
I was wondering about that !! Thx- for clearing this up for me.

The current gauge cluster has instruments and a tachometer... no idiot lights or HUGE fuel gauge.

The only gauges that seem to be working (AT ALL) are the tachometer & the voltmeter. The tach registers WAY more than it should, about 4500rpm at idle. And I KNOW it's not idling at 4.5K !

The voltmeter is at about 14 volts, so that's about right.

Fuel level gauge... PEGGED above full
Temperature gauge... PEGGED above 270*
Oil Pressure gauge... NADDA

Do you think this could be a condition other than a faulty instrument cluster ?

If you want a a neat "custom" swap, a cluster from a 95+ Blazer would modt likely work. Full gauges, which is more than my GPGT has Or maybe pirate the gauges for retro fit inyour dash....

Unless the wires from the sending units have gotten pinched and are grounding out - highly unlikely as there would be three - it is possible that the engine has the wrong types of sending units - those intended for the dumb-*** lights instead of gauges. But that wouldn't explain the fuel gauge....

fuel gauge, check ohms w/dvm. I forget what the ohms amount is supposed to be, but I think the fuller the tank, the more ohms the gauge will register. I had a Studebaker w/a fubared sending unit. You might be in the same boat.

and once again... Petes 84Z28,

Thanks for the advice here... I'll have to dig that cluster out of there (as another board member mentioned) and have a look-see into what's "really going on" !!

Thx-

It almost sounds like someone once swapped gauge clusters on your car.
When I insert (without modifying the wiring harness a must in my 1985 Firebird situation), my guages "operate" as yours. Functions not correct at all.
I also blow a fuse. I think it was horn, but, not sure about which fuse.
Is your oil pressure at 80 lbs or 60?
IF 60, V8 gauge package in there!
Camaro V6 gauge packages in the wrecking yard seem to be common.
Also there is a tach circuit board that reads a 6 tach correctly and a 8 cylinder engine correctly. It will say "6" or "8" on that remmovable board.
I agree with grounding or sending unit problems, too.

Nice Z28. A real one?
