loss of power
This is my first post. Have done searches and haven't found anything exactly like this but close. I have a 1987 camaro with the 2.8L fuel injected v6 in it. It has a general loss of power especialy in first gear and low RPMs. It idles smoothly and isnt rough when accelerating just pulls like I am in a truck that is overloaded. after I get to 40 MPH it will start to get it's normal power back. The exhaust was quiet but when this started it now sounds like someone put a resonator pipe on it. My Dad and I have checked the fuel delivery and replaced the fuel filter, ignition coil, and spark plugs. Have checked and cleaned the distributer cap and rotor checked and replace several bad plug wires. Timed it. Checked and cleaned the egr. any ideas would be greatly apreciated. Also wonder if it might be something in the exhaust or if there was something else I might be missing?

Do not buy another MAF sensor without checking the current out before. In so many cases, it only needs some air to remove dust or there is a short in the wiring or a burnt fuse. In my case, I changed the Burn off relay (10 bucks) and checked the wires to see if there was any problem. Do not pour or touch anything inside the MAF sensor, just get rid of dust by using air.

2.8s don't have Burn-off relays, btw. Just MAF relays (would be what you changed). Burn-off relays are reserved for hot-wire MAFs. The V6 MAFs are frequency film.

Did you disconnect the EST connector before setting the base timing? If not you're likely running 15-20 degrees retarded.
EDIT: or, reading further into the thread, yeah, a broken maf would cover it too

Try and bump the base timing up to 13* then reconnect the EST and reset the battery. You'll gain lowend but if it does drop off at top end then back it down a degree or two. Factory base timming is 10*

Thanks for all the help will run though it and see what I come up with. my neighbors thought I went and got one of thoese tail pipes for it lol. will re do the timing this weekend and see. got the code 34 unhooked the maf cleared the codes started the car and it ran nice and smooth got the SES light and pulled the code was 33 so I think the maf is dead. It runs so nice without it but still doesnt have the power it use too, low though that was lol. Was thinking the injectors are cloged cause the plugs on one side were realy dirty with carbon. the previous owner replaced the stock cat with a highflow one witch we noticed when we dropped it. It has an aversion to overdrive even when it was normal so that may be the cause. I use to just wait till I was on the highway and crusing before letting it drop in to overdrive.

You say the tranny or OD is acting funny. You sure the motor has lost power or maybe its the trans not getting the power to the ground???

Check for an exhaust mainfold leak or bad valuve. My old pickup had a manifold leak in it and it burnt out a couple of valuves. Causing loss of power, bad gas milage, and sounding like it had pipes.
