Injector troubles

I bought an 91’ Camaro RS from a friend, it will not stay running, he said that he had a computer diagnostic done on the car and it says the injector is not timed right. Therefore it is getting to much fuel.
The engine is a 3.1 they changed the MAF ,o2, and temp sensors as well as the cat.
The question is what would cause the injector to stay open for 58 milliseconds rather than the 4 milliseconds that it is supposed to open for.
I have thought of the throttle position sensor but do not want to spend the money unless I am sure.

im pretty sure 3.1's are MAP (manifold absolute pressure) and not MAF (manifold air flow??)

youre engine timing itself may be off.

get a timing light and check it

oh and if theres a junk yard near you you can usually make off at a very low cost for a pile of sensors to try on your car.

just walk in with an array of large wrenches, sockets and torx bits and start removing sensors, get 3 of each say.

i got 3 tps's and 3 iac's when i needed em for 10$

solved my idle prob and my hesitation/backfire prob.

well worth 10$ imho

You are right it was the MAP that was replaced.
Wouldn't the diagnostic computer have caught the timming?

nope

in fact my dealership didnt put the bolts back into my distribuer, i guess they wanted me to buy a new car. and the timing went crazy running lean then rich then lean and even warped my manifolds making an exhaust leak at the head.

i was trying everything to find the problem. took it to a mechanic, he fixed it in 15 mins.

computer will "attempt" to adjust for the timing, but if its so far off, it cant.

Now the new cars, timing is in the ecm, but not on ours.
