Fog lights

1991 Firebird.

Foglight switch is in the center console next to the rear defroster switch. They are identical in shape. On the rear defrost switch, if you press the right side, defrosters come on and the little orange indicator lights up. Left side, off.

Fog light switch. Press the right side and one fog light comes on (I assume the other one is blown) but will not stay on. If you take your finger off the switch the lights go off. You cannot press the left side (It physically doesnt go down) and it appears to have a little orange indicator on the left side (like the defroster switch) but it does not light up.

I do not have an owners manual for my car and this is my first bird. Any explanation of how this is supposed to work?

Sounds to me like someone swapped the switches with each other. The defroster switch should be the one that won't stay on, when you push it it turns a timer on that automatically turns off after a few minutes. Fog light switch should be the on/off switch.

The symbols are correct though.
