no, the code 33 shouldn't be anything to do with the egr. what do you mean that you can't get the car to keep on time? you mean the ignition timing? if so, are you checking it with the wire unhooked over by the a/c blower motor? you getting the clamp bolt good and tight?

i do have the est un pluged and i am getting the clamp as tight as possible. i just dont know why the engine is lopping and then dies. but when i get it to where it runs good, the code 33 stays on. any suggestions?

its kind of hard to say. are you sure that it isn't an idle problem that is causing the vacuum pressure to do funny things?

This actually sounds like there is a MAP issue. The reason I say this is that when code 33 is active the MAP is ignored. The ECM uses the RPM & TPS to create a MAP value. This derived value is then used to run the engine.

As for the MAP, it may be the vacuum line, the MAP sensor or the wiring between the MAP and ECM. Could also be the ECM.

It could be an EGR problem, but i doubt it. If there is something that is keeping it from closing all the way then it'll leak a little, causing a lower vacuum than expected and you'll get a code, then the ecm will ignore the MAP and figure something out, but since the vacuum actually is lower than it should be the ECM will calculate wrong and the car will run lean.

Although, with a 3.1 digital EGR, the ecm also knows when the valve is stuck open becasue it monitors the position of the valve all the time, so if it's not seated, then it'll set an EGR code.
