Something very weird happend. what is it?
I have been getting a code 22 for the TPS for a while now. I thought that It was just tripin a little and needed to be reajusted and set to the correct voltage since I bought it 14 months ago. Yesterday the car would not get out of first gear while in drive and the code 22 came on and stayed on. The car would just reve up and not change over to second gear. I bought a new TPS and set it to the correct voltage again. I disconected the battery cable to clear the code and then to it for atest drive. The same thing happend again. It would not go into second gear. I sat and wonderd what the hell was going on. I knew that the Trany was still good because it has always had a smooth transition into the next gear since I bought the car. I decided to play around with the TV cable to see what happens. Now the car goes into gears perfectly. What was I expereining and can a bad TPS cause the car not to switch gears?

The TV cable was too tight, holding the throttle open just a little. That's what gave you the TPS code, it was at idle, but the voltage wasn't what was expected by the computer.
The TPS had nothing to do with the trans switching gear, the only thing that the ECM controls on the autos is the TCC, not the actual gear shifts, that's all done by hydraulics inside the trans. The TV cable just makes it kick down to a lower gear when you step on the gas.
