need help can drive past 3000 RPM

hello

this problem arose a few weeks ago but now im too scared to drive my car (daily driver)

any gear i put it in i cant go past 3000 rpm.
as soon as i hit that mark the car jerks rpms go crazy and car dies (at times)

ive check transmission fluid and engine oil both are good.

any idead wat maybe causing this?

Axle/Gears: a whiny one
ignition system

if it happens dead on a certain RPM every time, I'm pretty sure it would have to be ignition.

I'd start with the basic tune up items, then move on to bigger things.

Cap, rotor, wires, plugs <--- do that first.

might check the cat to if you have one still that can sometimes limit RPMS when they get plugged

Hey i had the same prob with my 89 iroc every gear it would die and would not move. had to feather the throttle to keep her alive. Checked everything out and found out it was the fuel pump and ignition module. I dumped the converter thought it was plugged still died, check the TPS, IAC and MAP sensors all good. But it def. sounds like my problem and it was the pump

ICM and Pickup are the things that I would start with. You can get a hold of a rebuilt distributor that comes ready to stab for like $120 at autozone. It already comes with a new ICM installed too.

It does it just simply die or does it start to misfire at 3K?
