msd fuel pump

my in tank fuel pump is bad on my 1990 pontiac firebird 3.1 v6. i was wondering if i could use a out of tank msd universal fuel pump. my fuel pressure is 34 to 47 psi and the msd has a max of 86 psi. could i do this? if yes what would be a good source of power controlled by the ignition system.

Unless you pull the stock pump out and rig a pickup you're going to be pulling fuel through the stock pump... not exactly an ideal situation.

If you've got to pull the tank to change the pickup you might as well install a new factory style pump and not have to mess with again for another 10+ years.

Though you want the lt1 pump me thinks or someone will correct me. But stock v6 pump has plastic parts, there is a better one with metal parts/ gears, what not.

Key to long in-take pump life is not running low on gas all the time. Reason the pump is in the tank is to well keep it cool. The gas stop its from overheating. Best to pretend around half a tank is empty.

Every once in a while I like to run some MMO in the gas to lub the pump some and the rest of the FI system too.

the metal gears inside one is a true acdelco pump for a 1989 vette.
