Thinking of tossing some highway gear in the car. go from a 3:42 to a 2:73

I got a V8 car if I wanna go fast. Firebird is for looking cool but sippin gas.

im not 100%, but i think the rear from an automatic 2.8 would be signifigantly lower ratio.

forget the 2:73's ull prolly burn the more gas in intown drivning due to the fact u would have to press ont he gas much further to accelerate and also to maintian 55 with 2:73's would take more throttle then with 3:42's, only cause its a heavy car with a low powered engine, the lowest ger i would go woud be 3:23's or 3.08's.3.08's will give u about a 500rpm decrease in rpm, though 2:73s would be about 800, but 2:73s may prove to low a gear for a v6 in a 3,600 pound car

Actually didn't the 90-up 3.1's get the higher 3.23 rear gears with an automatic trans?

maybe there is some way to get a taller 5th gear from a T5 out of a V8 car, and yes, there were 3.23's and also 3.08's

I dunno, 1st gear is so low it would make up for the 2:73s

gears in different years

90-92 autos had 3.23's
85-89 autos had 3.42's
85-92 sticks had 3.42's

gumby think as of like this 2:73 gears would be like a loss of 40 hp+/-,that v6 would really strugle with that low of a gear
i think ur best bet for gears would be the 3.08's or 3:23's ,and if ya wanted i could get ya a set for 75$'s ,if ya had a v8 in the car id offer u a set of 2:29 gears h
