Ok! i have a 91 rs 3.1l sixer and ive had it for about 2 summers ive put about 7,000 miles on it currently at 105,000. when i got it, it had no nuts what so ever. i have bought a 305 needs to be rebuilt.... im capeable of rebuilding it. but, i want to know if theres a way to get the car scottin as fast with the sixer as i could with the 305 for the same amount of money? or is it better to go with a 350? ive done a few things to (wake it up) ive install a corvette servo and a B&M shift improver kit (700r4 kit worked), the car came with a 2000 wholeshot t-converter, ive taken all of my a/c out (heater box, compressor, radiator) ive taken my smogg pump totally out and got a shorter belt, so ive droped about a good 30-40lbs off of it, took the cat out, (the exhaust itselft apears to be after market-outback-), wiper res tank out, put a open element on the stock intake tube. ive kept up on it also...oil changes, ac delco Spark Plugs, good napa wires, cap, rotar, castrol 10w30, not to long ago i did whole topend gasket from the head up(rear main seal leak also distribitor gasket and valve cover) now im not saying she cant do a good donut/ get sideways outa a parking lot but it seems like when theres even another person in the car its gutless. it does ok in 1st (the standard granny gear) when it hits secound......chirp!........blah! so just wondering what i can do kinda cheap or if its just better to go american muscle style

well... what are your goals. autoX i would say turbo the six. straight line performence build a 350 or 383. (or BBC?) as for cheap mods to the six... you are going down the right path. weight reduction. i would also focus on mods that will cary over to an 8cyl. like subframe connectors and suspension. then if you drop an SBC in there later you will not have wasted a bunch of money throwing bolt ons at an economy application.

if you are capable, gasket match the intake ports on the heads and polish the day lights out of the exhaust ports. a cam kit is mid 200 dollar range, but you have a MAP setup, and ive heard that they dont agree to well with different cams without a tune. headers will do good too, pacesetter makes them

if you really wanna keep a v6 in your car, then do a
and youll find a lot to answer your questions. itll take a lot of reading, but search for "mod" or "mods" and youll find a ton. but its gonna be really tough to hit even 250hp w/o a 3.4 swap and a lot of internal work, thats N/A of course. there are a good amount of us dedicated to our v6's and we have found some goodies here and there. i posted not too long ago in some post that im in the high 15s and probably 210-220ish hp (guessing, no dyno yet), check out my site to see all the mods, i dont think ive missed anything on there.
biggest things youll wanna do is gears and a posi, since youre an auto youve got 3.23s, upgrade to at least 3.42s and get a posi, you can still find a SLP takeoff on ebay for a lil over $100 close to brand new, occasionally. if you can, switch over to a manual trans too. check w/ dale on doing that, i know he did it, loved it too
