Carburetors and EGR

On a 2.8 carburetor motor, is an EGR block off plate necessary if you want to disable the EGR?

I currently have the EGR vacuum port to the carburetor plugged, and put a vacuum nipple on the EGR diaphragm. Is this sufficient?

I was under the impression the EGR is only enabled when there is vacuum pulling on the diaphragm, so when you block the vacuum source, it's disabled.

Will the feedback carburetors react negatively to this modification?

Thanks for the help.

Why block off the EGR? EGR is a good thing when it works.

As long as it isn't stuck open, then leaving it disconnected is fine, it doesn't even need to be capped. However, if it's stuck open you'll get an unmetered flow of exhaust gasses back into the intake which will cause problems. You can reach under the EGR and push on the diaphram with your fingertip, it should move easily and smoothly, if it doesn't then it's faulty.

The feedback carb doesn't have any idea what the EGR valve is, or what it does, however your engine was designed with EGR in mind. It will work better with a functioning EGR valve then it will without.
