Can I use a S10 2.8L shortblock?
Can I use a S10 2.8L shortblock?
I've got an '85 Camaro with the 2.8L auto that lost the oil pump and spun the mains. Can I use the shortblock from a '92 S10 2.8L stick with a topswap to the Camaro heads & intake?
I assume so as GM doesn't like to change parts often, but seven years is a good bit.

I believe it's the same block. GM used all the same 60*V6's from what I know, but don't quote me on that.

You'll be fine. You will have to swap the oil pan and front cover to retain your original belt drive and accessories.
I'd just use the newer heads, since they will either be the same or have larger valves in them. I'd think even the '85 Camaro would have the larger valve heads but I'm not that familar with when those chages were early on. after '88 they were all large valve heads.
You will also need a nuetrally balanced flex plate. After '88 the engines were completly internally balanced.
I think that would be about it though.

For archival purposes, and since I might as well...
I used the distro, bracketry, hub, intake, valve covers, and timing cover/water pump from the camaro.
I had to use a '88 or newer flexplate and '85 gasket set.
A note to watch is that the S10 water pump spins the other way but will bolt on. Use the water pump for the timing cover you have.
The engine runs beautifully with 19* of timing advance and intake port matching. Plus I have a T5/3.73 driveline to use in other projects
