88 2.8L question

I have a chance to buy a 88 camaro with a 2.8L for $400. It looks good and even runs. Now my friend has a rebuilt 4.3L from a 90 S-10 .....that he will sell for $300. Now can I swap the 2.8L out without changing my computer? I really want to do something different with this and not just drop a 350 in it. Heck I was going to slap a turbo on the 4.3L for some real kicks. Thanks for any replys.

Re: 88 2.8L question

You are better off keeping the 60*v6. To change to the 4.3, you need to do everything that goes with a V8 swap - including a different tranny.

Now if you can find a 3.4 out of a 4th gen Camaro and boost that, you will see some good numbers. If the motor is in good shape, you can just put a turbo on it and be beating stock V8 3rd gens.

Some advice: Please search befor you post a thread, this is a subject covered at least once a month

BTW: Welcome to TGO.

Re: 88 2.8L question

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll buy that 4.3L and sell it. Then I'll find a healthy 3.4L.
