PS pump removal

I am replacing my PS pump. It would still rattle with all of the brackets tightened down. What is the best and easiest way to remove it with the pulley still on? I tried to get the pulley off with it still in the car and I can't get the darn thing to work right. I got the two nut on the back of it off. Do I have to remove the two bolts that are behind the pulley on the front of the pump or can I do something with the bracket?

Re: PS pump removal

There is going to be one nut or bolt behind the P/S pump thats a bit hard to find, but its there. Took me days to find it...lol If you ONLY want to take out the pulley, then you would need a tool to pull the pulley.

, but I don't think it took me days to fond it,

If you stand in front of the car, reach your right hand down low and around the PS pump. There is a bolt (actually I think it was a nut and stud) that if the socket is on it, the rachet side of it will almost pint directly at the inside of the tire where it meets the ground. You might have a better chance of seeing it from under the car, but since I did it while my car was on the ground I can't verify this. I left this lower bracket off and have had no ill effects from it.

Re: PS pump removal

Weel my car is not going anywhere for a few days. I found that the stud that bolts the bracket to the head snapped. Now I have to find someone who can drill out the bolt and go ahead and drill out this other bolt too. I hate days like today.

Re: PS pump removal

are you trying to remove the whole pump, or just the pulley? the pump is wicked easy to get off. ive never tried to remove the pulley though. you will most likely need a pulley puller.

Re: PS pump removal

The one that attaches to the backside of the pump and runs to the head. I think that I can run the car without it. I didn't get the pump off but the other bracket is still on and it's on there pretty solid. I havn't had the rear bracket on my alt for a while now. I left it off when I put my headers on.
