my 87 rs will sometimes idle at 1500 rpm. sometimes it will drop back down to 1000 and lower after a rev the engine once, or it will drop, but takes a while to get there. Just wondering what could be causing it to idle at 1500.

Either replace it or try to clean it. It is located in the throttle body. It has a 4 wire connector going into it and it screws into the throttle body. It is a cylindrical shaped motor.
