Which Fuel Pump to Get?
I just replaced my fuel pump with the crappy Autozone brand. Well of course I just started thowing code 54 and I know its the fuel pump. I was told to get AC-Delco but i cant find them at any of the parts stores (autozone, shucks, or napa) Autozone and shucks have the same two, the cheapo brand and then an edelbrock hi-po one for $150. Napa has several others but dont give the brand. I looked on the site and found some better ones but not sure which to get.
So my question is which is better...a pressure rating of 50psi with 16 gph. OR...one thats rated at 28 psi with 43.5 gph?
The higher flow one sounds good to me but why is the pressure so low?
Any input would be great.

Save yourself a few bucks.
Tell whoever you buy pumps from (I buy from Advance [schuck's in your part of the world] but they are all cheap-o pumps) that you want a pump for the 89 Turbo Trans Am.
It's the same pump that my old boss used to run in his 97 Suburban with a vortec 350. It's a little more pressure and flow potential and will do better than your stock replacement.
Your regulator will keep the pressure where it should be.
P/N E3270 at Advance for about 86 bucks. Your stocker is 72 dollars...

Ok I will look into that. Thanks.
I'm still wondering about the PSI and GPH tho. 50 sounds better than 28 but 43.5 sounds better than 16. Can anyone explain this?

Re: Which Fuel Pump to Get?
You need between 40 and 47 psi fuel pressure to run properly (as stock.)
Your engine, being stock, is not concerned with gph numbers per say. You do need a certain volume but nothing extravagant. The reason I suggest the pump that I do is that it is designed to provide 61 psi (regulated) to a 5.7 liter V8. Your regulator should keep the pressure within factory specs although it may run slightly higher than it did before. The volume available is much higher because the pump was designed to supply much more engine than you have.

Re: Which Fuel Pump to Get?
My Haynes manual gives a list of all the trouble codes and under "code 54" it says:
[defective fuel pump; defective fuel pump relay; defective oil pressure switch; poor electrical connection; open or short in circuit; defective ECM]
So how do I figure out which it is?
