Anybody know whats going on?!

Ok so I put my intake manifold all back togather from the recent thread. And I'm still having major problems. When I go to start my car with the keys, the engine wont crank over, and my oil temperture gauge shoots up but the car isint actually getting hot. My Egm, throttle body, and hoses are all hooked up. And if I keep trying to start my car my batterie will drain from 13v to nothing. any help is very much appreciated

Are you hooking up a battery into the car or are you jumping the car with another car??

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

It won't be the alternator that won't let you start your car. That is only responsible for re-charging the battery. You HAVE to have a short somewhere. You either pinched a wire between the intakes or something like that. Another possibility would be that the starter took a **** and there is a short in there or in the solenoid (which should be built into the starter).

That's the only thing that I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas??? If we can't figure it out, then it would be best having a professional take a look at it.

----------
I would bet the battery is dead then. Get a new one.

Thanks. I apprecaite you handing out. info is always good even if it's not right. is it the probabilty that I blew my engine up from not having the top of my intake manifold on when i reved it a few times?

It is a probability. I just hope you didn't blow it though. It would be a damn shame b/c that's a nice car.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

ahhh im wiery of what a mechanic would charge to figure it out.

ill let ideas keep flowing before i buy anything.

So it could be a fuse so maybe new wires first... then batteries and sparkplugs, and the other part mention which i have forgot

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

If it isn't cranking you may want to check your grounding straps, had it happen to me. I actually managed to burn one up after an intake swap and could tell it had happened till I looked at it.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

A ground strap is a thick wire running from the engine to the body or other source to make it connect to the negative side of the battery. As for my tem gauge the water temp always swings way over when I start my car but they all but my speedometer and tachometer do that. I don't however have an oil temp gauge yet.

So it spins but no fire? are you getting fuel? That extra sound you hear could be the fuel pump.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

Did you disconnect the fuel rail when you took apart the intake?? if you did, maybe the injectors don't have good enough connection to spay the fuel into the cylinders. Try checking all of the connections, buy new plugs, and try it again.

Was it working fine before you pulled the intake off? What all did you disconnect or take apart when you did that?

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

The fuel rail runs underneath the part of the intake that says 2.8L Multi Point Fuel Injection on the intake. It's a "wiring harness" kind of thing that plugs into the fuel injectors into the MIM. Did you disconnect any of those wires???

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

They are both configured the exact same way, just one has more displacement and different size injectors. That's all. But it's under the part of the intake where the air-inlet hose comes into it shown in your Avatar Picture.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

If you actually had that engine running with the upper intake disconnected (i had no idea it could do that) the settings in the computer would be way off from trying to compensate for that. You could try disconnecting the battery for 20 min or more to try and clear those settings and try it again.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

Go to the black cable (not red) where it meets the battery and you'll find a bolt (i forget what size, 5/16" maybe?) holding it to the side of the battery, loosen that until you can pull the cable back and pull it off to the side so it doesnt touch.

It's much better to ask questions first so that you don't screw something up.

#1 is the upper intake that you took off, right?? The fuel rail is underneath that.

#2 is just the air inlet hose that goes into that. You better be able to find it b/c it's your picture that you posted.

Wait... How do you post pictures on here???

you can right click your picture and go to propertys and find the link location and copy it. Then go to make a post and ull see a postcard with a mountain on it and you just put the link in there. Or you can go to Photobucket.com and make account, it'll store your pictures as you upload them and you can use the Image code from it

Ok. We've got some progress movin' now!! LMFAO. The fuel rail is underneath what you took off. Like I said, it looks sort of a wiring harness that should plug into 6 spots (one in each of the 6 cylinders). Make sure the connection is good at the injectors so the engine is getting its fuel. If it was dumping fuel into the cylinders, then you may have ruined the plugs and need to buy new ones.

Also, make sure the distributor has got good connection. With the engine turning over but not making any spark, you'll just kill the battery and flood the cylinders with fuel in which case you'll need new plugs.

^^Fuel Rail. Did you unplug it? Make sure all the connections are good.

Also, did you do anything to the distributer? The circled thing...

Check all the connections to that as well.

Re: Anybody know whats going on?!

wow man, for the future maybe you should buy a hanes manual or something like that before you try these things. I mean, I'm not tryin to talk down on you or anything but those manual's are available at any auto parts store and they will tell you the bare bones basics of what you are trying to do, like "how to disconnect a battery" and its really cool that we can all help eachother when stuff like this happens but in your case, what about next time? Anyways I'm glad you got it running!!
