Re: update on the turbo kits
ok so after i buy the stage 1 kit I will have to buy the WBo2 and the wb guage then the weld on bung. I have a lincon migwelder im currently using that flux core wire that came with it. I thing i should put it on the lowest setting because the pan is pretty thin i will go over it tho abit with the old dremmel to get to fresh metal then weld it in and hit it with the punch. Whats a good WBO2 to buy and do I even need a WBO2...

As soon as I get the 1500 im buying that stage 1. The only thing that will stop me from keeping it as a daily driver is the inspection but ill worry about that after the kit is installed

Re: update on the turbo kits
Man I have missed a lot being away! Just got the trans rebuilt the other day. I had plans on dropping a junk yard motor I bought in for the time being and then doing a v8 swap but I may just take the other v6 I have and build it to handle a stage 3 set up

UPDATE #2
more testing on the stage 3 kit
looks like base numbers for a stage 3 will kit will come in around 450ish hp
and with something around 60# ish injectors instead of 42's
peak output numbers should be in the mid to high 500 range @ 23+ psi

yeah it is i think stage 3 kits are gonna need replacement rods and better cranks, i dont think stock rods with arp wavelocks are gonna withstand that kinda power for to long. but hey ya never know

Re: update on the turbo kits
I have complete faith that a turbo will make power, but it's the fact that this guy can't even give me the parts he has owed me for over year, is going to reliably take money from other members here and in fact deliver.
I'll tell you right now, Project89 has gotten me for almost $300 in parts.
I sent him a cam, 10 CNC'd manifold flanges for the manifolds he was going to build in the past, and a TB I sent him to be fitted on one of the said manifolds.
If you don't believe me, search all the threads started by daves12secv6 (aka project89) and look at them. We had agreed on a trade and I was nice enough to send all the parts in advance. I shoudl have suspected when he actually replied with "I figured you would want your custom parts before sending me anything" that I would in fact never get them.
I have all the PM's saved to my hard drive from the multiple sites we discussed the transaction on, and if you PM me, I will gladly share.
Not saying he's a bad guy, but before anybody here buys something from him, buyer beware, and I jsut wanted to share my experiences with him.
I send a PM about once a month , and have finally been totally ignored.
Dave, I will gladly erase this and my signature if you just try to be fair and at least send me the TB back.

Re: update on the turbo kits
1st of all. Lets not turn this into a **** throwing squabble between two over something in the past. I'm not saying that your did one thing or he did something, and I'm not calling anybody liars.
For the threads sake lets just keep things on topic. If you (firstfirebird) or (project89(daves12secv6)) Have anything to say to each other, either make a different thread, or keep this in PM's between you two.
Because... its just between you two right?
Anyways, a buddy of mine is dead set on getting the Stage 2 or Stage 3 kit. Now, I've got a few questions. (for Project89)
1. Is the scheduled release date still on schedule?
2. Are you requiring some kind of pre-order, pre-pay to start production, to cover initial costs?
3.How are you getting your hp numbers? Do you have one single car your testing with on a physical dyno, or are using something like desktop dyno to get hp estimates???
Cant wait for more info.

Like I said, I'm not trying to squabble here, just letting you know how his business has conducted on this board.
I am a sponor on other boards and the same thing happens on all of them, the members are free to give feedback on experiences with suppliers.
If you feel confortable giving him your hard earned money, be my guest, just thought it would be only fair to share my experiences with you. It's no different than if someone was to give a positive feedback, would that not be allowed in a thread either?

all testing is being done on a real dyno stage 1 kit makes 250 hp
stage 2 still has to be tested, right now the company is more interested in testing the stage 3 kit then the stage 2 kit
there will be no pre pay or pre order.im not selling any of the kits myself.
schdual looks like it sho8ld hold for the stage 1 kits, stage 2 may be avialable a week or 2 later.the stage 3 kit is in testeing but the stage 3 kit has parts comming from 3 different places and they are stillwaiting on quotes for a batch of cams, heads, and other assorted parts.
the only thing i will be building for these kits are the megasquirt harness adapters which will basicallybe the standard mega squirt harness on one end and the stock f-body ecm connectors on theother so u can plug in the megasquirt and then plug ur factory harness in

You only need a WBO2 if you plan to tune the ECM (modify the bin), and know exactly what AFR you're running. If you just want to monitor if your rich or lean then a NBO2 will serve your needs with a simple 3 LED "AFR display" or the Auto Meter NBO2 display will also work.

Re: update on the turbo kits
Drilling in lines to the oil pan... taking out all the AC components... drilling holes to mount the IC (which isn't that serious)... suddenly, this bolt on kit is starting to turn into something else altogether. The story from firstfirebird isn't that good to hear either, even though a business you know is the ones selling the kits. 6 months to stop by UPS?
So to bolt on my kit, I'll need to some how get a line into my oil pan, take off the AC compressor, and may as well take everything else off since it's useless, drill holes to mount the IC... and I'm sure there's plenty of other things that'll pop as those 3 things did. This ~$1,500-$2,000 kit is starting to sound a lot more work than said to be.
Like I said, I'm new to all this **** so the above might be expected to those with experience. But when people hear bolt on they think "Tools needed: wrenches, screw drivers."
edit: Also, if the stage one is already verified 250hp, any pics yet? A picture says a thousand words. Video, even more.

The things that are mentioned(except the AC removal) really aren't that bad/hard. Regardless of what turbo kit you but, you will need a way to get the oil back to the pan and a way to brace the IC.

Re: update on the turbo kits
sorry been busy getting my car ready for the nationals this weekend, managed to break a brand new t74 turbo
but ill get the info for ya i dont believe they will offer installation's but i could be wrong its not something i ever asked them
actually i have to ask on the open or lsd rear i dont know,it dosent matter though it wont change the numbers and one isnt stronger then the other.
just dont do what i did, i got tierd of burning up auburn unitsand refused to pay 450 for an eaton so i put a spool in the car,not somethign u want to do with street driving.car hooks great just dont try to turn. hell parking lots are a nightmare lol
the 700 will take the power upto about 300-350 hp.i had problems with mine but i think it was due to the fact i had swaped my converter for an s10 unit, i blew up a few transmissions.once i swaped back out to a stock converter i stoped having problems, and after that i swaped out to a tci unit and havent had anymore problems
t5 guys ur on ur own, i dont know what the v6 t5 can handle
the opnly thing u really have to remove is the compressor everything else can stay, butu might as well pull it its just usless wieght neway, u dont have to drill holes for the intercooler to mount it u can just allowthe pipes to support it but i dont recomend it.
mounting the intercooler isnt all that serious, its 4 holes/bolts hell if u wanted to u could use self tapping sheet metal screws.
ad the oil line is not that big of a deal 50 bucks most muffler shops will weld the bung in for ya,any turbo kit besides an sts kit would u have to drill weld tap the oil pan,oh yeah thats right the sts kit is 6k
other then that u have to holesaw one hole on the car to get the intercooler to tb pipe up from under the fender. there is no other way to do it unless u guys want to lose 2-3 inches of ground clearance
btw anyone own a late model v6 stang cause thats next lol

Re: update on the turbo kits
I knew there would be more than bolt on stuff to the kit, but that's why I asked in the first place, just sounded too good to be true. While this is the closest it can get to bolt on, there's still some work that can't be done in everyones garage (eg, welding). Still sounds like an awesome kit and if it goes for/near the prices listed, it's a damn steal!
@project89, lol, I don't think I could lose 3-4 inches on ground clearance, at least not around here! The front lip itself is a good 3 inches lower than the rest of the car and, damn, do I scrape that enough! Wouldn't want it being my IC!
I'm sure I speak for the rest of us when I say, videos?!?! Lets seem them! Even if it's just a dyno run of the stage one. I want to hear/see the sucker in action!
Assuming all goes well on my end (new job=new DD, this can be a project car), I may in the market for a stage 2 EARLY 2009.

Re: update on the turbo kits
im working on all that basically im just relaying info back to u guys, ill see what the got for video and or dyno sheets and install pics,
noone actually needs to weld anything i just recomend the weldedfitting for the oil return, they have ones that will thread into the pan (i.e self taping),
and also bulkhead fittings whihc would require pan removal, and to be honest anyone who can bolt on the headers is more then capable of removing the pan.
u guys would have one other option, its not to exspensive and its used on all the sts kits,u could go out and buy a electric pump, this would require a small tank + the pump then u could return the oil back into the valve cover.
i belive the full setup would run about 200$'s which isnt all that bad.but i dont see why u would when for 50 bucks u can have an exughst shop weld the drain fitting for you. this is just something that needs to be done on a turbo setup no matter whatand even the new centrifical superchargers need this oil drian. welding does not require pan removal.
minike midas body shops, general reair shops etc can all weld a fitting in for u guys
besdies removing the ac compressor think about it only other mods to the car would be that one 3 or 4 inch hole,u need a 3/8's drill and a single holesaw for that cheapo 10$ bit works fine to cut one hole
and the intercooler u dont even have to drill 2$'s worth of 5/16's selftaping sheetmetal screws is all u need to screw the intercooler brackets to the car.if u want to use bolts then yes u have to drill FOUR holes
for most its the losing the ac thats a big thing i took some measurements today and the header wont clear the compressor in the stock location but asimple bracketto rotate the compressor inboard more and it would clear.
lol i hate to see it if u guys had to do what i had to do with my new setup
i had to relocate my battery to the trunk and rewire the front of the car to make room for the t74 turbo and 4 inch downpipe
noone actually needs to weld anything i just recomend the weldedfitting for the oil return, they have ones that will thread into the pan (i.e self taping),
and also bulkhead fittings whihc would require pan removal, and to be honest anyone who can bolt on the headers is more then capable of removing the pan.

Re: update on the turbo kits
Setup sounds good but again, I think the A/C issue will be a big deal 2 alot of guys. Since the kits are custom, it would probably be a good idea 2 include a compressor relocating bracket or something. Seems like a pretty small feat 2 me... See if u can work that out... Im CERTAIN it would help with sales...

Re: update on the turbo kits
Ya a new ac bracket would be great because i would hate to loose the AC on those hot days where ttops just dont cut it. The oil pan this is not even an issue thats liek a 5min weld on thing. The Ac bracket probabally isnt even that hard to make but imo the kit should come with one. Its just a piece of metal with a couple of holes drilled in it to pust the compressor under the header.

Re: update on the turbo kits
im looking at it, right now i dont think its gonna be a simple plate with some holes in it,i really need to get my hands on a compressor itself so i have full on true measurements though

Re: update on the turbo kits
I just picked up a book from Borders Bookstore called 'Street Turbocharging' by HPBooks. I recommend everyone on this thread get this book! It will answer most of your questions and put to bed alot of myths about turbocharging.

Re: update on the turbo kits
I truly hope Project89 delivers the goods. I have been the victim of undelivered goods, I think SixShooter was around at that time in history (2004-2005) when all the stuff with Doward went down. I have a small claims court settlement that is useless paper against said moderator Doward for about $1200 and no turbo graces my engine bay. He was however thoughtful enough to send a picture of the intercooler I never got.
Perhaps I will blow it up and tape it behind my grille.

I don't come here much anymore, but want to give some advice. If you want to search the terms "turbo kit" and the username "Doward" you will find there have been others selling such kits in the past. Or rather, advertising them.

Re: update on the turbo kits
I hear you, but like you said, no $$ involved
I'm finding out our lathe doesn't like parts that small, but you WILL get them --- eventually Our lathe has a max diameter of 22" and 33" length *BUT* we are getting a smaller machine soon.
I do have the material for you already though (as if that means anything haha)...

Re: update on the turbo kits
As I mentioned before too, no major hurry. Hell, I'm wanting to move to your area and been looking for a job. Maybe I can come by and make them on my own
I wasnt going to call out any names either. But figured the partys involved would know who they are.

Re: update on the turbo kits
ive got some good and some bad news
bad news first there test car has suffered a rod failure, and is down and out for the count, though the wounded motor is on itsway to being replaced with a 3.4 short block. will be a junkyard motor not a rebuild
the good news is we have figured out how to shift the ds header to get it to clear the ac compressor in the stock location,so while the car is down the ds header and crossover is being redesigned
hmm ff maybe i should sit on it even longer

Re: update on the turbo kits
I guess that sums up how you treat customers?
You promised in January, when I called you, that you would send it out when you could get a chance to go to UPS. Hell, you could have boxed it up and stuck it in the mailbox with a printed shipping label from USPS.com and not had to go anywhere.
Can you really blame me for not being happy about the situation?
