just checking

I know a 3.4 is similar to a 2.8/3.1. What I need to know is if the oil pans are the same. I kind of dont see why they wouldnt be but if not please let me know. Im in desperate need of an oil pan and looking for the easiest way to get one w/o buying new.

The RWD 3.4's out of the early 4th gens yes, they were the same 2.8/3.1 block with a different top end.

Re: just checking

the pans will fit both the blocks, but i believe they are different. I recall something about the 3.4 pan interfering with the 2.8 / 3.1 timing cover? Not to sure on that and the clearnace of the 3rd gen crossmember.

Also, theres some kind of sensor in the 3.4 pan (at least the 95 one i got). If I recall, Napa had a fairly cheap after market pan.

I heard to stay away from the chrome oil pan (if your going aftermarket) I was told the gaskets dont fit it properly and it leaks.

A 3.4 into a 3rd gen needs the 3rd gen oil pan- bolts right up. 'Search' for the '2.8-3.4 boogie' to read details...

Re: just checking

Thanks guys. I found a guy with a 2.8L 2wd s-10 to give me his pan in good condition for $20(JY price around here). I already researched it and everywhere I go the part numbers are the same as a 'bird so I dont imagine it matters.

no it doesn't. my swap dropped right in. the only issue I can see is the yr of the 2.8 (carb/fulie) and how many bolt holes for the timing cover. iirc, the fulie cars & the 3.4 have the same amount.
