Need some Help on Starting issue

Here goes...... 1987 2.8

Freshened up entire engine, new gaskets, hot tanked almost every part
new timing chain, 4 degrees advanced.

after re-assembly car will not start without a shot of ether\ starting fluid.after she is running she purrs like a kitten

here's what i know

45 pounds of pressure at the fuel rail
hooked ecm up to the snap-on solus computer, ecm getting all the readings it needs, cool temp, maf, tps and so on
timing is set at 10 degrees btdc--dead nuts on
no vacuum leaks
no leaks of any kind

at this point i am at a loss. i would appreciate any help or suggestions you guys have

thanks paul

Re: Need some Help on Starting issue

Are you supposed to advance the cam? I think that that would be your problem. I could be wrong though.

Re: Need some Help on Starting issue

sorry poor explanation, this paticular timing set allows for a 4 degree advance or retard on the cam sprocket

Old cam or new one? Stock cam? IIRC some cams already have the advance built in so you don't have to degree the gears.

Re: Need some Help on Starting issue

Your cold start shouldn't be your problem. I disconnected mine and the car fires right up every time. It just makes startup a little quicker, the 3.1s didn't have them.
