Dyno Results: 3.25L

Made three runs with the below numbers

122/150
121/148
123/151

peak torque at 3650 rpm, peak hp at 4600 on a Mustang Dyno. Torque at peak power was 140ft.lbs. All that to the wheels. So at a 30% loss through the 700r4 and thats 160hp/196tq, but I'm sure its more like 20% right?

I was expecting a lot more but being I didn't do any intake manifold rework I'm not suprised. The motor could easily pick up 20hp if I ported everything out. Anyway, enjoy the results!

Nice numbers. I've seen your cardomain but lost the link. What all have you done to the motor?

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

Ya, iron head. The Cardomain is in my sig. Its a 2.8 block, 3.1 crank, .060 overbore, .430 lift cam on 1.5's (too big), and 3 angle seats. I cut out the shrowding in the heads right above the valves. Knowing what I know now, i would have ported the heads like I did but would have also ported the intake manifolds to match the heads better. Port work results have been shown to increase flow by 10-15cfm. I think the great AFR and the near 200ft/lbs shows that what i did worked. It just didn't flow the air necessary to keep it up. Ah well. Time to change the motor!

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

nice not bad at all, how much ignition timing do u have in it
stock converter? and did u have it locked up

its hard to say but ppl say about 15-20% loss on the v6 stuff though i dont see why it would have less loss on the v6 other then less rotating mass from the smaller tq converter.

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

Th700's are pretty efficient, I'd say drivetrain loss is closer to 15%.

Ya, not very impressed with the outcome on this motor. Base timing, AFR is good, just wasn't a good cam to pick. Its really the only thing thats not right about what I did. Ah well.

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

im thinking if u bump about 4* into it u could pick up about 20hp on the top.
atleast everyone ive talked to who has switched gears and re dynoed has said going to a numerically higher gear the dyno has shown a lose in hp

are u doing any kind of tunning on this motor?

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

Yes, tuning was done to get it to idle right. I just have the wrong cam in it and I did a 92 speed density swap. I should have stayed MAF but I like the tuning and datalogging ability.

I'd try to do that ignition bump but I'm afraid it just won't make enough difference. Plus the extra effort to start it would make it a real hassle. I've tried to bump it up before.

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

u shoudl be able to bump upto 6* in it without issues specially starting issues

what cam did u put in it?

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

its a cam that was rated for 7k max rpm. I got a little over excited about potentials.... I think it would do much better with the stock cam back in it. Or at least something that matches the "power band" that it currently has. So less overlap and a 5k limit. I'm even thinking a .430" is a little high for stock iron heads, reworked or not.

Re: Dyno Results: 3.25L

the lift will help with the iron heads. anything past .500 is point less though

7k may that sounds like the 272 grind u would need more compression for something that large and a decent tq converter

id drop that thing back to a 260-2 cam with an s10 pickup tq converter

aslo looks liek afrs were hanging like 14.0 most of the pull id shoot for around a 13.0 these motors like 12.5-13.0 wot n/a

ur 2 like peaks in the curve were right around 13.0. so besides that cam a bit more tunning would help out
