smoke...my final frontier...

alright, i am getting tired of this so i am gonna talk about it and post pictures later. i have a 1986 mpfi v6 and my engine smokes...lol.

after driving it for about 10 minutes and turning it off there is smoke that just pours out of the hood scoop (i just tell people i have a fog machine so it looks like a dragon nose) not really. anyways i think i am burning coolent and the majority of the smoke is coming from the passenger side of the engine between cylinders 3 and 5 i think. i keep thinking that maybe i have a leak in my cooling system and it just leaks onto the exaust. but in any case if you have any input please let me know

Don't know about anyone else, but this sounds like a leaking head gasket to me, IF it's coming from the engine. However, with where the leak appears to be, it's more likely that the heater core extension pipe is rusted through and spitting pressurized coolant onto the manifold... :shrugs:

if you're on a budget (read: too poor to afford a heater core until your next paycheck) and don't need heat right away, take a knife and cut one of the heater hoses so you can loop it back and cut out the heater core. it'll run just fine like that, just make sure to leave enough hose so that it doesn't collapse in on itself. that's the ghetto fix, but it works quite well.

Had to do this at a gas station. The trick is to undo the hose running off of the water pump that runs to the heater core, and disconnect the black thing with 3 hoses from the intake manifold pipe that runs behind the alternator. Loop the lower hose to the intake manifold pipe and you're good to go for a while, until it gets cold enough that you need heat.
