ok let play whats this sensor
im working on my 89 rs 2.8 i changed all the intake gastket and changing the sensor on the manifold only prob is i dont know what it is
It sits up from near the thermostat (actuly there two of them but im sure one temp sending unit for the ecm) the other one hoks to the wiring harness that all the injector are using even had the injetor style electrical connection wire looks to be black and pink with a second red wire
anyone have a clue cause i dont
thanks

Re: ok let play whats this sensor
sounds like your cts. The temp sending unit for your gauge is just a one wire slip on plug.
Re: ok let play whats this sensor
yea the gauge sending unit is located on the head on the driver side and uses a green wire
this on is on the intake mantifold
what a CTS i know prob a stupid qestion

Coolant Temp Sensor
There are 2 coolant sensors...1 for the gauge and 1 for the ECM. One is in the intake manifold behind the thermostat...one is in the cylinder head. I forget which is which though.

The one for the gauge is in the corner of the head. The ecm one uses a two wires connector and the come from your injector harness.

Re: ok let play whats this sensor
I found this thread from searching. It covers my issue.
I have an 1987 Camaro IROCZ. I have removed the cold start fuel injector when I installed the Accel SuperRam about 10 years ago. Now I am switching to the HSR. The issue is that the Accel intake manifold (base) has 3 fittings in the front. I removed a coolant temp sensor with a fuel injector connector on it from one hole. I removed a coolant temp sensor with an oval connector from the second hole. And, I removed a coolant fitting from the third hole. The thread size of the two coolant temp sensors are the same, about 0.63" diameter. The coolant fitting thread is about 0.81" diameter.
Here is my problem: the HSR has three threaded holes (so for so good). However, there are two threaded holes having the 0.81" threaded hole,,, and only one having the 0.63" threaded hole. From my other post on this matter, I figure that I will run a coolant hose from one of the 0.81" threaded holes to the black plastic switching part that sits on the passenger side near the alternator. Plug the second 0.81" threaded hole. And use the coolant temp sensor with the oval shaped connector in the 0.63" threaded hole. The second coolant temp sensor with the fuel injector type connector will not be used.
Does this make sense?

Re: ok let play whats this sensor
Sounds like someone did an engine swap... 89 is not supposed to have a cold start injector in the rear of the intake by the distributor. The one with the round plug is the sensor, the fuel injector plug is the cold start switch, and the gauge sender/idiot light switch is in the front corner of the driver's side cylinder head.

Re: ok let play whats this sensor
When I posted this, I did not realize that i was on the V6 board. Anywhy, that may not matter. I am the one who made the engine swap. I am the only owner of the car. I built a 395 cu.in. stroker based on the ZZ4 block, its a V8.
Basically, I need to know: do I need the cold start temp sensor? I removed the cold start injector many years ago because I purchased the Acell SuperRam, it did not have the hole for the injector in the side on the intake manifold. Besides, I have been burning my own Eproms based on the '89 ECM, eventhough I have an '87 car. Just would like to know about the cold start temp sensor. I do not have a threaded hole for it, so, in any case, I will not be using it.
