Guess that sensor!

There are 2 sensors on the front of the engine by the thermastat. The small 1 is the coolant temp ensor and the other one is a bigger one. Which 1 is that.

Re: Guess that sensor!

If it's right after the air filter, then it's the MAF.

Re: Guess that sensor!

Thats the one project89. Now here is my main issue here in the picture. This fuel injector is the middle one on the passenger side. Here is what was done so far:

Changed out fuel rail
Fuel injectors with O rings (used from jy but they were still good)

Not sure what else to do. This weekend I will be pulling the intake just to make sure the path is clear and possibly getting new injectors just for my safe keeping.

I believe its that injector. I'm going to give them all a once over when I pull all of them out. I hope I didn't chip any of them when putting them back in. You know how they have that plastic piece around the bottom of the injector.

Re: Guess that sensor!

He is correct about the cold start "switch". On the back of the lower intake their is the actual cold start "valve" that has the metal fuel line attacked to it.

Leaking Injector: Both the upper and lower o-rings are good? Also, being an "old" injector, don't forget that these engine get hot!! Plastic gets brittle.

Yea I replaced all the o-rings when I switched out the fuel rail and injectors. I'm pretty sure that injector in the picture, the plastic piece around the bottom going into the intake may be chipped.

Re: Guess that sensor!

Most likely.

Here is another addition to your post.

What are the 2 sensors located on the cylinder heads?
1st is located on drivers side front corner of cyl head.
2nd is located on passengers back corner of cyl head.

I think these are temp sensors or switches. Also, I think the one on passenger rear side may be the actual fan "switch" because it has a round plastic head on it.

I know there is a temp sensor near the thermostat, but how many of these are there on this 2.8L engine?

Which are sensors and which are switches?

There is only one sensor for the ECM, the one with the little connector by the thermostat housing. The thing next to it is the cold start switch, to thermostatically control the CSI in the back of the intake manifold. The one in the driver's side head, behind the compressor, is the sender/switch for your gauge or idiot light in the dash. And, finally, the thing in the pass side head, near the lifting eye, is your thermostatic fan switch. Not all cars have the CSI or the secondary fan switch as some later models have computer-controlled radiator fans.

This is why GM and others went to the networked control module systems... to eliminate these absolutely ridiculously redundant switches and sensors.

:edit" Derick, which fuel injectors are you running? There is no way that 3.4 injectors should have a plastic piece at the bottom that can be chipped... I have a set in my garage. They don't hold fuel pressure, but they don't leak (externally, anyways... the crap goes into the engine).

Actually running a set from a 2.8. I was going to swap them out with 17s this weekend though.

Re: Guess that sensor!

Had an injector with a bad o-ring which caused the problem. Word to the wise: Use light oil on those suckers before you put the injectors back in the fuel rail.

Back on the road now. Driving a plymoth breeze everyday just aint the same. LOL

Thanks for all the feedback.

Re: Guess that sensor!

Oh, and you don't need those plastic caps on the 2.8 injectors. You do, however, need the spacers to put the o-rings into the right spot inside the intake manifold rather than having them barely sealing at the edge of the injector bores. I may have had 1 cap on my entire set when I had my 2.8, but I still got the injectors to seal. I blame the Alabama-to-NY climate change in the middle of winter for that, and many other things.

BTW, GP-Sorenson (Advance Auto and the like) p/n 800-9220 nets you a full set of o-rings plus an extra 4, in case something happens.

I hope your 3.4 runs properly on those 2.8 injectors...

:Edit: I also normally use the bit of oil film on the dipstick when I reinstall my injectors... it's right there and it's not like you're draining a quart from your oil pan.

The 3.4 runs just fine with these 15lb injectors in there. When I had teh 17s in there ran very rich and burnt up a tank of gas every 10 days or so. I can go almost 2 weeks as a daily driver 30 miles a day just going to work, not to mention the extra driving I do.

As far as the injectors go live and learn I guess with the o-ring thing.
