My son just picked up an 89 RS with a V-6 thats not running.
We don't know much about exactly what has been done to it but was told the heads were worked and a bigger cam installed. The previous owner never got it running after the upgrades.
The car will crank but won't fire.
Here is what we have tried so far.
Unhooked the fuel lines and turned on the key and don't get any gas. need to check into the fuel pump and why its not pumping.
So just to get past that i have an external electric pump we hooked up to the line and pumped gas that way. I assume the larger line in the pressure side and the smaller one is the return. Still won't start.
Pull the number 1 plug, got the piston to TDC on the compression stroke and set the timing. Sill won't start.
I checked for spark on number 1 plug while it was out and plenty of fire.
Before we pull the timing cover to make sure the new chain was installed right is there any thing else i should check.
There are some wires that are not hooked up but can't see where they go.
I will go take some pictures and post them in a little while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure the injectors are firing and the ecm is seeing a tach signal

I unpluged the conector to set the base timing and started with 8 degrees, plugged the conector back in to check the total advance and it won't advance.
What should i check and how do i check it.
I don't know much about fuel injection so any help would be great.

I have a usb bare pin cable to hook up to the ALDL and WinALDL on my laptop. I tried to get some data but couldn't get it to work.
I used pin A & E and tried it with and without the resistor.
Any one using this and what configuration settings should i use.
