Serpentine swap

I have most of the parts to do a swap from V-belt to serpentine pulleys on my car. I have the pulleys, new ac compressor, and correct water pump.

I dont have an oil pan, and was told I need the newer oil pan.

Why?

I cant see a reason for it......

Re: Serpentine swap

The new oil pan is only needed if you change your timing cover because the oil pan seals on the timing cover. Sorry if I'm off a little on that its been awhile since I've been through that. I'll look and check for sure and update you though.

Re: Serpentine swap

You don't need an oil pan, or even to remove the timing cover, so long as you have the right water pump and pulley, and all associated brackets. I hope you rented a PS pulley remover. Also, you're going to need a BIG drain pan for under the front of the engine when you crack the water pump off (unless you pull the block plugs and drain the engine first). Keep your belt well out of the way until you get everything else in, including the coolant. You don't want to be buying ANOTHER $25 belt, do you?

Re: Serpentine swap

Well I think I have everything. Is there a special bracket that holds the idler puller? I have the little idler pulley assembly, but dont have a bracket with it.

Re: Serpentine swap

So I currently have the car on jack stand, and I come to find that I cant just change the water pump from v-belt to serpentine. The water passages are different.

Which means I need a new timing cover........which means I need a new oil pan

AM I missing something here?
