Advice: Cracked Heads

My engine has 175k miles on it. When I bought it (for $900) I didn't even make it home before she died on me; the mechanic told me it was a blown head gasket.

I took the engine apart, and today, I brought the heads over to a achine shop to be cleaned, tested, and resurfaced if needed; the mechanic just called me and told me that I need new heads because they are both cracked.

Rock auto has heads for around $275 per head. Should I invest the $600 into new heads, or would I be better off completely swapping the engine?

Is there a better place to buy the heads? If I were to get a crate engine, who should I buy it from?

Thanks,

-Mark

Re: Advice: Cracked Heads

I have a set of 3.1 heads that are stripped down...I took off the the valves, springs, seals, and tried to give them a good clean. I was planning on rebuilding them completely...but plans changed a little form then. If you want to pay for shipping they are yours.

The only thing is that all the parts got mixed up....got to love it when your brother has a dog that loves to cause havoc. You could just transfer all the parts from your heads over. ill go give them a check and post up pics if you want.

Re: Advice: Cracked Heads

If youve got the money, swap a 3.4 in. If not, get a set of 2.8/3.1/3.4 heads from a junkyard and put them on. Theyre all the same from 85-93.

Sounds like the perfect excuse to do a 3X00 swap!
