V6 to V8?

i have an 87 camaro with a 2.8 v6 in it. i want to put in a 3.4 but i am also thinking about a 305 or 350. now the question is, what do i have to do to make one of the V8s fit? could i just take the engine and tranny out of another car and throw on mine or what?
i already know the only real direct fit is the 3.4 but i would live the V8 power

Re: V6 to V8?

This thread should really be in the Engine Swap Section, but here's what's involved (the quick version):

From V6 to V8 - In addition to the new engine, you must change the transmission, engine mounts, coil springs, radiator, and (possibly) routing of the fuel and brake lines across the crossmember. Also, when choosing a transmission, you may also have to make changes to transmission cooler lines and kick-down cable. If you go to a TH-350 or TH-400 3-speed auto trans., you will also have to change out the driveshaft and the shifter in the console (necessary for 1984-up models; not necessary if staying with a 700R-4). Most 1982 and 1983 V6 Camaro's had the TH-200C trans, which was a 3-speed and already has the driveshaft and console shifter that is needed for the TH-350/400. And after all of this, there's wiring and an ECU swap to consider...depending on whether you go carbureted or fuel injected. If you haven't done one before, it will not be a quick job. At all.

From 2.8 V6 to 3.4 V6 - In addition to the motor.....it's mostly a matter of swapping parts from the 2.8 over to the 3.4 to make it run. If you want the 3.4 injectors/electronics, then some wiring or ECU swapping may be in order. There are a few very good threads on this forum for the 3.4 swap.
