Removing Smog Pump and AC wink wink
Removing Smog Pump and AC wink wink
I got an 83 camaro sport coupe with the 2.8l v6... she's in the shop right now for a tranny swap, used 700r4 goin in. So I'm fantasizing about all the wrenchin I can do soon and I want to know a couple things about my motor...
Did the 83 2.8L come with a smog pump? If yes how do I reroute my belts when I go ahead and remove the AC? I'm gonna take both the AC and Smog Pump off.
Also if I remove the AC from the assembly can I still use my heater or is that dependant on the AC pump?
If the heater does rely on the AC then what alternatives can I use to heat the interior of the car during the winter?

A/C parts and heater parts are on different sides of the firewall. The A/C parts direct air into the heater parts. Don't forget to have the system emptied before you disconnect anything.
If there is a belt driven thing underneath the alternator, you have a smog pump. If not, you don't. There should be a belt routing sticker on your car that has different routings whether or not you have A/C.
