doing a tune up

Ok, I've got a 92 RS with a 3.1L V6 in it. I need to do a tune up on it and after looking at it, I figure that I can reach every spark plug except the number 1 spark plug. There's a piece of sheet metal right in front of it actually blocking it and there's Absolutely No room to squeeze past it or around it. I'm figuring that there's Got to be trick to doing this, and I've heard some horror stories about having to undo the motor mount on that side, jack the motor up on that side, and then I can reach it, ( kind of like doing a Corvette I'm told ).

I've also been told that I might be able to reach it easier by using a long extention and coming at it from the wheel well. ( I'm going to look into that to see if that is actually the case ).

Now, this is my second 3rd gen Camaro, ( my first was an 87 Z28, but it had a 454 in it and even though it was a little tight in there I could reach every spark plug with no obstructions in the way ), and this is my first V6.

So my question is, which way was right? Is there some trick that I just haven't learned yet for negotiating around this? or do I have to take the bolts out of the motor mount and jack the engine up on it's side after all?
Any help, ideas, tips, and tricks would be most appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Re: doing a tune up

You can't reach the plugs from the wheel well... That's second gen stuff. I've never had a problem getting to mine with a straight 6" extension, but then, I don't have that nasty AIR pump, either. Have you tried a u-joint extension?

You'll have to get a pic of this. Sounds like you're making it harder than necessary.
