Got my K&N's in

Got my K&N air filters today. I can honestly say that I did feel a difference. Maybe up to 5 hp. I already love the things. Makes me feel even better that I never have to buy air filters again as long as I have this car. I just can't wait to take it onto the interstate tommorow!

------------------
1986 Berlinetta, 2.8L, newly rebuilt 700R4, 3.42 Posi. 130K miles and counting, K&N air filters.
Wins:

1994ish Olds Acheiva
1994ish Saturn SC1
Losses:
1999 Grand Am SE
1996ish Honda Accord (twice)
1990ish Vette (never should have been dumb enough to race a vette in the V6)

Glad to hear it wasn't just in my head when I noticed a difference!!

How dirty were your original filters? Did you take those little baffles out of the airboxes?

My original filters weren't really all that dirty. When I replaced the ones that were in the car when I got it, which were super dirty w/ the ones I replaced today I didn't notice any difference at all. I haven't removed the baffles yet. I'll probably do that w/in the next few days. I didn't have time today, b/c I had to turn right around after I dropped in the K&Ns and go get my front end alligned. BTW when you remove the baffles it won't cause any water to get sucked in will it? I thought they were there to prevent that. Actually I heard the K&Ns are waterproof, don't know if it's true or not, but I still plan on removing the baffles.

As far as I can tell, the baffles are there just to keep the filters cleaner!! My K&N filters when they had 5k miles on them, were as dirty as my original Fram's with 13k. I've never had a problem with them getting wet, and they've been in since April.

I have heard warnings that if you drill the bottoms out, they WILL get wet...that may not be too good I'm gonna do a homeade ram-air someday, and the tubes will keep the filters from getting wet.
