I also have a new track time...

...Raceway park was rather crowded last night, and I showed up late, so I just did one run and left. I probably could've stuck around for another run, but, I got a whopping time of:

17.200 @ 77.something MPH (left the slip at home)

So, the MSD box helped a bit. The only good thing I got outta this run is a baseline "before" my cleaned & flowed injectors. Rich sent me an email on Wednesday saying that my injectors were on their way back to me. According to UPS's tracking, I should see them when I get home today. I plan to put them in over the weekend, and visit the track again on Wednesday.

I better see some frickin' improvement ... I'm starting to wonder if I did something wrong with one or two of my mods.

Tom something has to be up... Less mods than you I run a second faster. It is just like with my buddy John.. He has more mods and more gear, but runs slower by over a good solid second. Plus I have over 180,000 miles....

It can be a couple of things... Some cars are lucky and get built to better tolerances, I could have one and you could have one that is off a little. How much fuel, tire size, stereo stuff, it could be a lot of things.... I had a period where the car was like a dog and the chip crapped out on me.. Run your stock chip and see what occurs.....

hey thats better Tom. We should be ashamed of ourselves spending all this money to only run 17.2's and 16 flats. Hehe, oh well at least we're hvaing fun doing it and thats all that counts, at least thats what I keep trying to tell myself lol!

I think my next mod will be a slick, yes only one, because I have an open rear.

Hey Tom, I wouldn't feel bad at all. I mean, you have a 206k? mile engine running 4 tenths faster than when it was new! I mean, that's not bad! The fact that Brian has over 180k on his car and is about 1.5 seconds faster than you shocks the hell outta me...The fact that both of you can take motors with that high mileage and crank 'em down the strip says a lot. I'll be thrilled if mine is still running at 180k miles, let alone running low 16s at the strip!

I gotta get to the track sometime before winter hits...I've never clocked my car before. Sure, I don't have much for mods yet, but the motor and tranny are real tight, and I should be able to make a decent run!

Brian, that sounds like a good idea (putting the stock chip back in). After all, I have the cheapest chip possible (ADS)! Hm.

3.1, yeah, it's definately fun (and one helluva hobby), but I would've liked to see my old 1996 "16.87" time improve, or stay the same- not get worse. 'Fact the other nite I had some punk come up to me and say "Hey what's your car run in the 1/4? 13's?" No "Hi, hello, excuse me, by the way nice car", none of that. So I look at him, laugh, and said "Think I'd tell you?" He tried a few times more (yeah, like I'm going to let the whole underage population of my town know my car's speed), left, and yelled to his friends outside, "Yo, that car is slow!" I was pissed, sure, but imagine me trying to explain I was working on a v6? Puh-leeze, the kid would probably give me the "drop in a v8 then!"

Jason, true, I guess my motor is just showing it's age... it kills me that I ran a 16.87 "before mods" and now can't get out of the low 17's.

that kid was a punk! I hate those kinda people. Are you going to make a 3.1L out of it when you redo it? It should add 15-20lbs of torque.

Yeah, I could tell he was, just from the way he shuffled up, dragging his feet on the ground.

Actually I think I'm going to keep it a 2.8l. I'll try to get some kind of overbore out of it, of course... but something in my head tells me that I don't want a stroker motor. I have a lot of research to do, and some books to buy, before I make permanent decisions.
